I helped Meeper and Max, my 2 little sisters who are 6 and 5¾, make a new dress for Max. She wears clothes every day, because she doesn't have any fur, so she gets 1 new dress or 1 new shirt and 1 new pants every week. Not having any fur is called sphynx, or goblin, and Max's baby name was Goblet because she thought that meant a little goblin. She looks a little bit weird because you can see how wrinkly her skin is, but we don't let anybody make fun of her, because she's beautiful. We planned the dress here, but then we had to go to the Gram House to put Max in the measuring closet and get the clothes machine to spit out the dress. It's white with wiggly blue stripes that go around and has pink and green bugs climbing on the all the stripes so Max looks really cute.
Max didn't wear her dress very much, because right after she put it on, Devi-auncle and Faun came to see if we wanted to go swimming. We all wanted to go swimming because it's TOO HOT! Devi isn't really our auncle, but her and Trisa-auncle have been friends with our parents since a really long time, so Faun and Pixie are like our cousins.
Sahara and Simoun, our big sisters who are 10, came with us, and we did a lot of swimming. Max and Meeper's friend Secret, who's 6 too, was there too. We call her Secret because when she was 4, she said she got a new name and it was a secret so nobody could use it to do bad magic on her, and got really mad if we used her old name. Secret looks kind of like a black cat who's standing up, but really she's an ultra-modern person and not a cat at all. I want to know what her name is, but it's really rude to ask people for their secrets. If they wanted people to know, it wouldn't be a secret.
Devi bought us ice cream, but we had to promise not to tell the kids who weren't there so they don't get jealous. I don't know if I like that.
We had ice cream for dessert, so nobody got left out.
I forgot to write about Devi and Faun. I don't think I like going back to days I already wrote, so I'll write about them today.
Faun is a centauriform person. That means his body is like an L with four legs on the bottom part like a big cat, and two arms on the top like a standing-up person. He can run really fast and still carry things in his hands, and he's an ultra-modern person so he never gets hurt and gets better right away and never gets cold. Being a cat is really good, but sometimes I still feel jealous. When I'm grown up, I'm going to take the medicine to make me like an ultra-modern person.
Devi is one of Faun's moms. She's a regular standing-up modern person, but she's round all over so people think she's pretty and good for hugging. She has white skin that's special so she doesn't get sunburned, and long blue hair. Trisa is Faun and Pixie's other mom, and she's centauriform but brown all over. Pixie and Faun are both shaped like Trisa but blue and white like Devi. Pixie has white fur and blue hair, and Faun has blue fur and white hair. Pixie is 12, so she plays with my big brothers Humboldt and Dmitri most, but she's nice. I used to argue with Faun a lot when we were little, but now we're friends. He always wants to play and talk about whatever he thinks is cool right now all the time, but if we do that with him sometimes, he does other stuff with us.
Maybe I'm explaining about people too much. I won't do that so much, except first I have to explain about Hebichi because they're my best friend. They're an ultra-modern person who's 8 years old like me and Faun, and they like doing all different things every day like me. They have really light pink scales all over and a long lizardy tail and lots of fins and spikies instead of hair, but they're really good for hugging. They're a boy and a girl at the same time and they like wearing cool shorts and surprising people.
Hebichi and their little sibling Toka and their 2 dads brought over pink spinch salad with vinegar and our families had dinner together. It was really yummy and loud and fun! Then the grownups talked and talked about boring grownup stuff with the grams and some pocket foxies and Toka took a nap, so us kids played Robot Maze. That's a game where you have to get your robot through a scary place with holes to fall in and zappers and fire and conveyer belts to move it around, and all the robots are shooting each other because it's not a game about being friends. It's a game about blowing things up. It's really hard because you have to decide what your robot is going to do by putting out cards and turning them over 1 at a time and no take-backs if you make a mistake or somebody pushes your robot where you didn't want to go. We play it that bigger kids have to do more cards in a row before they can change their mind except I have to do as many cards as Humboldt because I'm really good at it. Hebichi almost won except Dmitri got jumping legs so his robot was a froggibot and jumped over everybody.
I got really sleepy so I got Hebichi to stay over and sleep with us in the kitten room and it was really cozy.
We had a really good dream adventure when Hebichi did a sleepover. We were in the park in Super Monkey's city and the dragon twins were playing with a bunch of people. Their names are Dragon 37 Left and Dragon 37 Right, but I call them Polkadot Dragon and Checkerboard Dragon because that's the scarves they wear to show they're nice. They had a ball as tall as Big Sam and they were playing like soccer except they got points for how many people were riding on them when they scored so they couldn't be too wild. Dragons are as tall as elephants, but longer and skinnier, so lots of people can ride on them. I got on Polkadot Dragon and Hebichi got on Checkerboard Dragon. We held on tight but it was really hard because they were running around so much and I fell off and Checkboard hit the ball so hard it ran me over. She was really sorry but she didn't have to be. I didn't get hurt. It was funny. Then we made a rule that only littler people could push the ball, but if you weren't touching a dragon you were out so the dragons had to run to the ball. That was fun too. My big sisters Sahara and Simoun came to play too. They're twins like the dragons. Then more people came, and Dragon 18 and Dragon 53, so each team had two dragons. Then a kid named Johnnie was touching two dragons so she changed sides and then everything was ridiculous because people changed sides and dragons changed sides and we laughed so hard we all fell off. Even Sahara laughed, and she's the grouchiest kitten. It was really fun.
Then we went to eat at the barbecue but everything smelled like bacon because it was time to wake up and eat breakfast. Hebichi was still there because we were hugging to tight his dads couldn't take him home. We got to eat breakfast together.
I'm going to explain about the dragon twins. After the old mean dragons went away (except for Dragon-mayor, who likes being friends with everybody), the first new dragons who came out of the mountains were teh dragon twins. They're 37 Left and 37 Right because even before they hatched out of their egg, they didn't want either one to be first. They wanted to be right together. But Polkadot dragon was the first to jump over a hill and say hi to the cats who watching in case mean dragons came back, so she's the one who got shot with a missile and her arm almost came off. She was really lucky Number-dad was there to help, and he called Shoe-auncle, who's a vet, and he helped more, and Fairy-mom got a big truck to take her to the hospital. Everybody was really upset because they didn't know there were nice dragons and Checkerboard was really mad at the cat who shot her sister so they didn't even know dragons were nice and it was really scary. But Dragon-mayor talked to everybody and there wasn't any more fighting and everybody in his city was happy the dragons are nice now. Polkadot had to do lots of excercises to get her arm working again, but now she's all better except she has a big scar on her shoulder.
My sisters don't have different scars and they're both brownish red with black ticks on every fur but people can tell them apart because Sahara has gold eyes and wears a gold tail ribbon, and Simoun has blue eyes and blue ribbon and Sahara is bitier. Sometimes they change ribbons to make people who don't know them get confused but I can always tell.
I wrote before class and Hebichi saw me and we talked about how fun the dream was, but then Momo-teacher barked at us for not paying attention and I felt really bad. I didn't cry because I'm 8.
We can go home from school on our own, except Max and Meeper but they can go with Humboldt because he's responsible, but it's nice for our grownups to come get us. Number-dad said, "O no, why that splendid rainbow tail down?" and gave me a huge orange hug because he's a huge orange dad. I kissed his nose because he's a really good dad and I like kissing people. I told him Momo-teacher got mad at me because I wasn't learning right, but he said it was OK and gave me another hug. He said, "If you not pay attention when Momo-sensei yerf, I gotta frown, but all people think about all different stuff and gotta change focus." I felt better.
Number-dad has trouble talking with words because his brain is good at talking without words, like cats who aren't people do, but he's really smart and he always sees when we're sad, even when I try to keep my tail up.
My tail used to be regular grey, but Number-dad helped dye it rainbow when I was 6 so it's more beautiful. I didn't change it back when I went to the tail store, because it was an EXPERIMENT. If they didn't let me trade it, I would take it home and make it grey again, but they did. Now every time I go to Cat Day, I look for a new songkitten with a rainbow tail, because I think the tails we trade in get used for new kittens. I haven't seen one yet, but I don't know how long it takes to get a new kitten. Or maybe I'm wrong, because it's an experiment.
I forgot to write yesterday because I was busy reading a really good book about kids who get taken to a different planet and have to save everybody from mean robots. It's called Blue Sector Rescue by 1027 Pin. Today I finished it and I remembered to write so I didn't start the next one.
Meeper said her grownup name might be Annabelle. She's 6, so she's thinking about grownup names a lot. In our family, the rule is that before you turn 7 and go to the tail store and say mom and dad instead of mommy and daddy, you have to know your grownup name and you have to be a good hunter. Meeper likes being friends with people, but she can hunt animals. I don't like hurting animals.
Sahara and Simoun said I had to hunt. If I couldn't hunt, I couldn't take care of myself outside. They hugged me a lot. We went to a forest with antelopes that weren't too big. I lurked in a tree and when some antelopes came by, I tried to jump on the one with biggest horns. You have to hunt boy animals because then there can still be more animals next year. They all ran away. The one I wanted ran around a tree. I went the other way up a hill and jumped down on him. he was littler than me so a lot of his bones crunched. He was so hurt and scared I let go, but he couldn't get up. He was hurt so bad he was going to die. You have to kill animals quick so they don't suffer. I bit his neck so all the blood came out and he died because I killed him. I cried and cried until Simoun came to find me, then I pretended I was brave. We took the antelope back to Sahara and they helped me make a fire and cut up the dead body and we cooked it and ate it. They said it was good, but I don't know if it was. I said I wanted to think so they left me alone. I barfed up all the meat. I buried it and the dead body and put flower seeds on top. Everybody might get mad if they knew, because that's how we bury cats, but I think the antelope deserved it.
I was in my closet writing this and started crying. I felt really bad for killing that antelope who just wanted to eat plants and be a dad. The door was a little bit open so Dmitri came in and washed my face. I closed the journal so he couldn't see what I'm writing, because journals are supposed to be secret. But when I asked what I was crying about I told him it was hunting. He crawled into the closet and cuddled me. He has the fluffiest cuddles but I still cried. He said I didn't have to hunt any more. I can stay in town and eat food from stores, or if I want to go outside, he'll hunt for me. I felt really bad because my heart isn't strong enough, but Dmitri hugged me a bunch more and argued with me. He said my heart is really strong and kind, but I don't know if that's true. Humboldt put his head in and washed my face too. He didn't argue with me, he just said he loves me and I'm a good cat.
Last night we had a kitten meeting. We all went to my zoo and sat on the grass with chicken bites and talked about what the rules for being 7 should be. Humboldt said any way of getting food is OK because we aren't regular cats, we're songcats who can eat all kinds of things besides meat. I said what about buying pizza for everybody. Everybody said that doesn't count, but Hunboldt said it does. We're people so we can work together with other people and don't have to do everything by ourselves.
We argued a whole bunch. Dmitri and Simoun don't like changing rules. Max and Meeper didn't really understand because they're only 6. Max is only 5¾. Humboldt said that's why the rules have to be changed. We were only little when we made them. I forgot I didn't want to bother people by making them change the rules just for me and said being able to change bad rules is just as important as having rules to start with. Everybody said that was right.
We didn't decide because too many little dinos came to eat our chicken bites and we had to run away, but I think we'll change that rule. Max and Meeper already hunted some squirrels, so they don't need a new rule, but if we have another kitten who wants to be friends with animals, they can pick strawberries or get money and buy pizza and not have to hurt anybody.
My zoo is in the Dreamlands. It's the D'Yuggoth, Samuel Zoological and Conservation Institute. Conservation means making sure animals and plants don't go extinct. That's why we have dinos and clobberbirds and animals that are extinct in the Awake World. We have some special flowers and trees too. I don't get to tell everybody what to do, but I can go whenever I want and all my family and my friends can too and I help make sure the animals are okay.
It's a nice story how I got the zoo. One day I didn't go shopping with Dragon-mom and everyone because I was upside-down reading a book. Humboldt was reading too, but he was right-side-up. He flopped across me so our tummies were squished together and we made an X, but he was too big and I couldn't breath. He put toyboxes on each side of me and flopped across them. I said, "You're a bridge!" We talked about all the things that bridges go across, like rivers and train tracks and roads. I said, "And zoos!" because the zoo in Starfall has some bridges where you can go and look down to the animals when they run around their habitats. Humboldt said, "You're a zoo!" We got some big paper and drew a map of the Samuel Zoo. It looked like a kitten all spread out. We put the smart animals like ellyphants and monkeys and parrot-birdies in the head. We put the wiggly animals like snakes and bugs in the tail. We put the hungry crocydiles in the tummy. Then we put other water animals there, but with stuff between so the crocydiles didn't eat them. We put the bathrooms in the bum. It was really fun to draw. When everybody came home they helped think of animals we should have. That's how we got dinos, but only three kinds of big fancy ones because they're expensive.
When I went to sleep, I was in front of a zoo. It had my name on it and all the animals we drew and a bunch of little feathery dinos running all over. I don't know if it was there before and I got my name on it by drawing the map, or if drawing the map made it up. Fairy-mom is from the Dreamlands so I asked her, but she didn't know either. The Dreamlands are MYSTERIOUS!
I wanted to write about Humboldt, but I was too busy. July 6 is World Improvement Day. It's a really big holiday because we're celebrating all the people who fought the wicked corporatists and all the people who helped them. It was a really terrible fight and lots of people got killed, but now modenr people have this nice city and no one can boss them around or hurt them or take their stuff, and they let us live here too. In the day time there's lots of BBQ party, and people set up tents to ask for money to help other people who are having trouble, or who want to help the world. This is my first year working at the Tiger Help Tiger tent. It was really scary because if I didn't say things right, people might not give any money to the tigers and they couldn't get nice stuff. Tiger Help Tiger is from Tansy-gram's country, where a bunch of pet tigers who got away from mean people want to help get other tigers away. Those tigers aren't people, but they're smarter than regular tigers. They invented manga that cats who aren't people can read. That's really good for teaching cats thing.
I worked in the Tiger Help Tiger tent in the morning. Chawky Tiger and Tumbles Tiger and Spicy Bites Tiger and Whirlwind Tiger were there. They can't talk, but they can be nice to people and show them tigers are cute. Chawky's name is because it sounds like Chalky, that's the white color of his fur, and Choccy, that's the brown color of his stripes. Tumbles's name is because she likes doing somersaults. Whirlwind likes standing up and twirling around and around and around. Spicy Bites ate a hot pepper one time and it made him yell and everyone laughed at him. Sometimes tigers aren't very nice, but that doesn't mean people can keep them prisoner and hurt them. Lots of people thought the same thing and gave money to Tiger Help Tiger. Tansy-gram and Cally-auncle and some other grownup cats will use that money to buy stuff the tigers need. I didn't do a bad job.
I got the tigers and Tansy-gram and VV-gram and Cally-auncle some BBQ lunch. I had to go back 3 times because they eat a WHOLE BUNCH! Then I got to sit down with Hebichi and eat my own lunch and we talked about who we should give money to. My parents gave me 100 dollars to give to social responsibility groups. We went around and looked at a bunch of them and I picked 5 to give money to. I gave the money to Ocean Sweepers and Unstoppable Doctors and Paleontology International and Kidbooks and Conservation Land Trust. There were lots more I wanted to give money to but I think it's better to give more to the ones I like best instead of giving a tiny bit to a whole bunch. Maybe I'm wrong. There are lots of people in Starfall and lots of little bits can be a whole bunch. But that's how I did it this year.
In the afternoon I helped Heather-auncle and Mr Bear at the tent for Ethical Agricultural Institute. That's Heather's social responsibility group. It's about making sure animals on farms don't suffer when they get killed so people can eat them, and have good lives until then. I don't want any animals to get killed, but maybe this will make people not want to hurt them at all and then they can eat meat from stores like in Starfall. I didn't have to talk to people very much because Heather is really good at talking, but I made sure she had lots of flyers to give out and water for people to drink and stuff. I think she did a really good job.
Daytime was really busy but then it was suppertime and our whole big family, everybody from our house and the Gram House and the Cousin House and Zeb-auncle and Faun's family, and all the visitors sat together and ate BBQ salmon until we got round. That was Tansy-gram and Heather-auncle and Mr Bear and the tigers and Cally-auncle and Ruffur-teacher and Luna-auncle and Polly and Evan and Monster Sheep. Shoe-auncle got there late, but we left some food for him because we're nice. Then it got dark and it was time for fireworks. They went zooming way up high and BOOM like thunder and colors all over the sky! It was scary and beautiful and I squished in beside Dragon-mom and watched until the fireworks were all done and we had to go home.
I hid in my closet to write this but it's superlate so I'm going back to the kitten room to sleep.
All us kittens dreamed about fireworks. They were old-fashioned firework that can explode all by themselves, so it was scary, but the dragons and some of the grownups' monsters helped us. The fireworks were beautiful!
There's no school or afternoon classes or games, but we have to help clean up from all the party yesterday. First we're going to have breakfast with all our family who's visiting.
We had fancy omelets with bacon inside and creamy wheat and all different kinds of fruit and we hugged our family and told them about all the stuff we did. Then we had lots of energy to go out and clean up and they told us about all the stuff they did. Lilja-auncle was sad because her sister Lejla-mayor couldn't visit, but she had to make sure the people building a new sheep house do a good job.
Lilja and Lejla are sister sheeps but Lilja-auncle lives here in the Gram House and works at a vegetarian Beijing-style restaurant, and Lejla lives at Tansy's Sheep Place and is mayor of the sheeps. I think Lilja is a little bit weird for not living with all the other sheeps, but she has all of us here and her doggie Beethoven and her bunnies Flip-Flop and Flim-Flam and her friends at the restaurant to be like her flock, and she has Hans the Helpobot to be like hands for her. I love Lilja a whole big bunch, because she's a really good auncle and she takes really good care of her pets.
Shoe-auncle has lots of nice stories about about animal friends because he's a veterinarian. He tells us about the cute animals he helps and how much their people love them and take care of them and how he loves them too and sometimes they love him, like the big doggie with red-brown fur the same color as Flower-gram's hair who always visits every month to get her claws trimmed and always gives him doggie kisses. The story that made me happiest was about the baby kitten who has a plush dragon and always takes it to the vet with him to help him be braver. I know Shoe-auncle has sad stories too, because on of the things veterinarians have to do is kill animals that are too sick or hurt to stay alive, so they can stop suffering, but he doesn't tell those stories to kids.
In the afternoon there was a soccer game between Purpleberry Ice Cream and Amazing Whirligig. Dragon-mom and Fairy-mom and Big Sam and Nessie-auncle and Flower-gram are all on the Purpleberry Ice Cream soccer team. Cats can't play soccer, because you have to have your hands and feet the same way as standing-up people, but Fairy-mom can play too because she has the special family technique of turning into standing-up person. When she stands up, she doesn't have any fur except on her ears and her tail, like Flower-gram and Zora except she only has one tail. She got that technique from her, and maybe we kittens got it from her. The only ones who stood up are Humboldt and Simoun, and they couldn't turn back for a long time because it was so itchy and horrible to get fur again. I think I could do it, but I'm scared because they screamed so much. Maybe I'll try it when I get older.
Usually VV-gram has white fur with brown points, and Nessie-auncle has white fur with wiggly black stripes all over, but in the summer they make their fur purple and white because that's Purpleberry Ice Cream colors. We have purple and white pompoms to shake when we cheer for them. We gave all the vistors pompoms too and we all cheered really loud, but it wasn't enough. Amazing Whirlgig won 4-2. They're really good players. After the game, Dragon-mom said, "We might need extra cheering this season" and looked at Number-dad. She means he should dye his fur white with purple stripes. That looks really weird. I like him better when he's orange with orange stripes. But maybe it will help Purpleberry Ice Cream win.
Everybody went to get ice cream. Amazing Whirligig had to buy ice cream for Purpleberry Ice Cream, because they won, but people who cheered had to buy their own ice cream. That's OK.
I'm writing in my closet again but it's really late so I can't write all about dinner. After dinner the visitors went home, because they have to go back to work tomorrow. I have to go to school tomorrow, and if I don't stop writing, I'm going to be too tired!
Today I'm really sleepy because I stayed up too late writing! I tried to pay good attention in school but I don't think I did because I don't remember lots of it. After lunch I took a nap like every day, but Dragon-mom had to wake me up to go to fiddling class. Fiddling is really hard because it needs really good fingers, but I can do it. I couldn't do it today, and I got really frustrated when Hebichi could and I cried in class. Pion-teacher was really nice and let me work on basics, but I felt bad for making everybody look at me and not learning the new song. Hebichi and Morning and Sammy gave me a lot of hugs but I was still cross and didn't want to go to softball. Hebichi gave me a peanut butter sandwich and I felt better. They're a really good friend.
We did batting practice and pitching practice at softball. I'm getting really good at throwing the ball where it goes, even when I'm tired. It was fun and running around made me less tired until I got home and had to take a nap.
When I woke up, Dragon-mom asked how come I'm so tired and what I'm doing in my closet late at night. I felt really embarrassed because she found out. I told her it's a secret, but I won't do it late at night any more. I know she wanted to ask but she respected my privacy because she's a really good mom.
I'll write about Dragon-mom and then go to bed.
Dragon-mom's name is Lyoko, but that means dragon so we call her Dragon-mom. She's a modern standing-up lady with no fur and no tail and little ears, and she's taller than Nessie-auncle but not as tall as Flower-gram. Really her hair is gold-colored, so Number-dad and Fairy-mom call her Gold-chan sometimes, but in the summer she makes it purple for Purpleberry Ice Cream. Even though she isn't a cat, she can go to Cat Day because she's married with 2 cats and she has 7 kittens. They call her Cat-in-Law. She's a wizard who keeps our town safe from monsters and mean people, and she's a composer who makes music for movies and games. She used to go to different places to hunt monsters that were hurting people, but now she's a mom. She says maybe when we're all grown up she'll be a monster-hunter again, like VV-gram and Flower-gram are now that Number-dad is a grownup. That's really scary, because even if I'm a grownup I won't want my parents to get hurt. Maybe they're TOO brave. Dragon-mom always tells us to try to figure things out on our own instead of helping us, which sounds kind of mean, but she never gets mad if we make a mess when we're trying to figure things out, and if we really can't do it, she'll help us. It makes us braver at doing new things. We say she's made out of love and beautiful music.
Everything is good at my zoo. The ellyphants with the snooty grandma got tired of people looking at them and left, and some new elephants I don't know came to get nice food and doctors. I think they'll be nice. A bunch of kids were at the petting zoo making friends with the animals. I think they were new teenagers, like Rei and Cara, but they were Dreamlands humans. Some of them liked the horsie and pony and donkey and llamy, but some of them liked the bunnies. They didn't know who I was so they wouldn't let me near the bunnies because I'm a big cat and they were afraid I might eat them. That was really brave of them! Zsuzsanna told them who I am and then they let me say nihao to the bunnies.
I had a good sleep and nice dreams so I paid attention in school and didn't get frowned at. I had lots of fun in pottery class because I like spinning the wheel and making round things with wiggly shapes. I want to make a vase for Number-dad to put flowers in, but I have to get better at spinning and learn to put pretty glaze on and fire it first. Then I went to softball practice again and we played a practice game together. I got a HOME RUN! My side didn't win, but it was really fun and we got to spray everybody with cold water.
When I got home Max was in Shriek City and it hurt my ears so I pounce-hugged her as hard as I could and we slid across the floor and Max squacked instead of shrieking. Fairy-mom ran in to see what was happening, but it was all OK then. Fairy-mom said I was too rough because Max is littler than me, but Max wasn't mad. She doesn't like going to Shriek City, but she doesn't know how to come back.
Max was upset because she figured out that if Meeper gets a grownup name that doesn't start with M, Max and Meeper and Fairy-mom won't be M-Cats together any more. Fairy-mom and Meeper had to hug her a lot and tell her they will still love each other just as much when they yell something different, just like when Max was still Goblet.
I'll write about Fairy-mom and then go to sleep.
Her name is Mab, so we call her Fairy-mom because that's the name of the fairy queen in an old story. It's a little bit funny that her name is so short, because her big brother and big sister have long fancy names, but she likes it. She's from the Dreamlands but she isn't a songcat. She's from a family of truck-driving cats. In Starfall the trucks can drive on their own, so she organizes things for people instead. Right now she's organizing people to make a new kind of robot. It's really complicated! She always reminds us to get ready to do things and clean up after we're done. We say she's made out of love and checklists.
Fairy-mom is the same size as VV-gram and she's all white. Usually she has yellow stripes so she can be like Number-dad's stripes and Dragon-mom's yellow hair, but she got bored with that and now she has dark green lines from her nose to the end of her tail, and more lines on her sides so she looks like she's always zooming. She looks really cool!
We had so much sports I couldn't cheer for everybody.
Purpleberry Ice Cream soccer team had a game against Ferocious Mama Bears soccer team so all the standing-up grownups in our family had to play that. The Ferocious Mama Bears don't all look like bears, but they are all parents and they yell really ferocious. But Big Sam is like a bear and he's a dad and he's a really good goalie so Purpleberry Ice Cream won. Hurray!
All the cousins had lacrosse games this afternoon too. Zora is in Teenagers B because she's 16, and she was playing against the Amazing Whirligigs Teenagers B team, but we couldn't all go cheer for her because Nico and Rei and Cara were playing in Teenagers A against Electric Dinosaurs. Cara isn't a cousin but she's Rei's best friend and she's in Exploration Club with Humboldt and Dmitri and Pixie, so she's LIKE a cousin. I went to cheer for Zora because she's my best cousin, and Max and Meeper came with me, but everybody else cheered for Nico and Rei and Cara. All our cousins won. Hurray!
We had even more sports because Dmitri and Humboldt are in Teenager A Purpleberry Ice Cream softball and they had a game against East City. It started in the middle of the lacrosse games so we had to run to another park to cheer for them. The soccer games were over so our parents were there too and we all cheered as loud as we could. They didn't win, though. They lost by 1 point. They felt bad because everybody else won their games but not really bad because it was lots of fun to play. Dmitri jumped really high up to catch the ball that was going to be a home run! They're good players, but East City did really good today.
I'll write about the cousins and then go to sleep.
Zora has lots of names. Her whole name is Du Loch, Zoraya Quinn, but most people call her ZQ. Even her parents call her that. I call her Zora because when I was first learning to talk with my new brain, it was too hard to say ZQ, and she's my favorite cousin so I still call her by a cute name. She's the very first ultra-modern person, so other ultra-modern people call her Prototype. She has white hair with black stripes like Nessie's fur, and brown skin like Big Sam's fur, and cat eyes and cat ears and 2 cat tails. She says she has 2 tails because she's like the checkerboard cats when they're cool, but Rei says it's because she's like a goblin cat from Japan. Zora knows lots of fighting and lots of magic and wants to be a monster hunter. She wants to kiss lots of pretty girls too. She used to be grownup kissing friends with Zsuzsanna at my zoo, but now they're regular friends.
Nico is 14½. He doesn't have a tail but he has long white hair and looks really strong and everybody thinks he's pretty. He likes reading books and learning all different stuff. He's already done with school and does classes all the time. Everybody says he's smart like his dad, but he likes learning about plants and animals and germs and oceans, not robots. He doesn't talk very much, but he likes to read his books to me. They're hard to understand but I feel smarter.
Rei is 13. They aren't a boy or a girl and they get grouchy if anybody asks. They don't have any fur but they have a long tail with a hand at the end of it so. Some people think that's weird but I think it's cool. They like playing games, especially really fast complicated games like Time Witches. They always wear shorts and big shirts because they don't want to show off how pretty they are. In the Dreamlands, they're in Exploration Club with Humboldt and Dmitri and everybody and they have a mushroom hat with a really long tongue like an underhider.
Cara isn't a cousin but I like her. She's pretty and good at fighting and sports so people think she's cool. She's 13 but sometimes people think she's older because her mom chest is grown up and then it's embarrassing. She's in Exploration Club too, because when they got to go with Rose and Clover to explore the new valley by Northern Shores, she couldn't go with them and it made her really mad. She puts her hair in two bunches on the sides of her head and puts glitter in it, and she likes wearing sparkly lipstick so when she kisses people it leaves a sparkly mark. I think she wants to be grownup kissing friends with Rei but Rei doesn't know if they want to be grownup kissing friends with anybody.
I had a really good dream with with all my big brothers and big sisters and the whole Exploration Club and Aimée and Octavio-auncle. Aimée is a regular cat in her Awake World, but in the Dreamlands, she makes robots that do "meer". Octavio-auncle is Fairy-mom's big brother, but he doesn't drive a truck very often. He helps cats who do things like make robots or give hair trims in the Dreamlands get money for what they do and spend it on things they like. He keeps some of the money, that's called a commission, but I think he really helps the cats he works with. The Exploration Club is Humboldt and Dmitri and Pixie and Rei and Cara, who I wrote about, but there's a blue-yellow-green tricer named Ma-uu and Explorobot. Explorobot is a meerbot for exploring, but it wasn't very good at exploring on its own so when it met the Exploration Club it wanted to join. It looks like a snail with spider legs coming out and it's all made of metal so it's no good for hugging, but it's really nice. It got some dents exploring rocky places, so the Exploration Club brought it back to Dragon-mayor's city for Aimée to fix. Simoun is learning to fix meerbots so she can take over from Aimée, because there are lots of meerbots and it wouldn't be OK to leave them without anyone to fix them. We all sat in a park together in the sunshine that wasn't too hot and Aimée and Simoun worked on Explorobot and we talked about all kinds of dream adventures and Humboldt washed my ears. Zsuzsanna and some teenagers from her school visited us, but they were on the way to see a movie. Clover-auncle came to sit with us and talk about exploring and wash my ears. It was really happy.
Humboldt is the oldest kitten. He's 12. He's a tuxedo cat like me but his tuxedo is black except he dyed white stripes in it so it's a white tiger tuxedo. It looks really cool and it's hard to see him when he's hiding. He thinks being a big brother is really important and he's responsible. He can take care of any of the other kittens, and he can go all over by himself. He's so responsible VV-gram taught him Magic Biting Technique, but then he bit Rei to show off so maybe he's not as responsible as a grownup. Rei is an ultra-modern person so they get better right away even if you can bite through their skin. He really likes exploring and he's good at being in charge so he's the captain of Exploration Club. He likes wearing pretty dresses to parties too.
Dmitri is my other big brother. He's 11. His kitten name was ABC Kitten because he put things in order so much, but he said it was because he liked taking naps and it's easier to sleep when things are in order. Then his grownup name is for the person who put all the atoms in order, so we know really he likes putting things in order. His fur is really big and soft and brown and a little bit pointed with darker brown. He's the prettiest kitten. He doesn't like exploring as much as Humboldt, but he likes drawing maps and taking notes so the exploration is in order. He's the cartographer of Exploration Club. That means map-maker.
Clover-auncle is Number-dad and Shoe-auncle's little sister so she's orange with orange stripes like them. She's 24, which is enough to be a grownup in Starfall, but songcats grow up slower so she's a teenager like Zora. She lives with us so she can take classes in Starfall, but usually she's a Dreamlands explorer. She's really big and strong and fierce and the first time Humboldt and I met her, she tried to play so ferocious that I got scared and my pee came out. I was scared of her then, but she was really sorry and really careful and nice to us and now I like her.
I forgot to write yesterday but I think that's OK. Number-dad didn't write every day. I'll only write when there's something I feel like writing about.
Bina asked about logarithms in math lesson the other today, so today we had a SPECIAL GUEST INSTRUCTOR. Sabertooth Fox is bigger than the regular pocket foxes and has long sharp teeth and a cape made out of green lace, and she looks at people really scary. When she was done telling us about logarithms, she jumped down and walked away and even Momo-teacher jumped out of the way!
Logarithms are hard to understand but I think it's a way to make multiplying look like adding, and squaring look like multiplying, so it's easier except you have to do logarithms so it's harder.
When I took my after-lunch nap, I dreamed I was on the space train and I tried to get Isaac Mewton to help me with logarithms, but he was busy with the train drivers and I had to wake up.
Isaac Mewton is a little grey tabby kitten who lives on the space train. He's really cute and lots of times I want to scoop him up and snuggle him and wash his ears, but he's really smart with math and how things go, and I think he's going to grow up to be a space-train-driving cat.
I thought about logarithms and read about them, but I still didn't understand them so I sat on Dragon-mom and made really cute eyes at her. She knows about math because some kinds of music are made out of math. She said I was just right about logarithms being for changing problems that use multiplying to ones that use adding and like that, and shared her raspberry ice cream with me. I was really glad I figured it out!
Lots of people didn't understand about logarithms so Sabertooth Fox had to come back. This time her cape was black and shiny. She asked if anyone understood logarithms. I put my hand up. Some other kids did too, but not everybody. Hebichi didn't. Sabertooth Fox picked me to answer and I told everyone about how multiplying is adding a bunch of times and exponentiating is multiplying a bunch of times and logarithms let you do one like the other. Sabertooth Fox agreed with me and I felt really smart. Then she taught us some more until everybody understood and we could all do math problems with logarithms. Her work here was done, so she turned her cape into a glider and flew away. She's really cool.
Bina had a cape today. It was a little bit like Sabertooth Fox's cape but pink because that's their favorite color. They asked Ubiquitous Bob-teacher what the next thing after adding and multiplying and exponenting is that you can do with logarithms, but Bob-teacher said raising logarithms to powers isn't useful for math we're learning today. I think Bina was really sad Sabertooth Fox isn't coming back.
Meeper was the saddest when Ani-auncle and Runner-auncle didn't come to visit on World Improvement Day, but she was the happiest when they called us on the phone. She really likes Ani and wants to grow up to be like here. She even got grey spots in her fur to be beautiful like Ani.
Runner is a cheetah who used to live at Tansy's Sheep Place. His mom got sick and died when he was a little baby so the zoo people took care of him and then Cecil, Akimori, and Other One, 3 monkeys who lived at the Sheep Place visited the zoo and he loved them so much he had to go home with them and they were his dads. Now he's a grownup and he's learning to be a doctor. He tried to learn to do conservation, but it wasn't what he's good at and lots of cheetahs are doing it. He met a really nice and beautiful snow leopard at university and now they're grownup-kissing friends. That's Ani. She's learning chemical engineering. I think that's making machines to make different chemicals. Her name is from aniline dyes, which were the first dyes people made instead of getting them out of plants and bugs. I think Runner and Ani are going to get married.
I'm staying up a little bit late to write about Meeper. She's the next kitten after me. She's 6. She's white with grey points and her fur is fuzzy but maybe she'll grow up to be really fluffy like Dmitri. She likes saying nihao to new people, and when she went to play group instead of school she asked if there would be new friends every day. She remembers everybody's name, too, and all their families and what they like and everything, because she's really smart. Her kitten name is because before she was good at talking, her voice sounded like "Meep! Meep!". She thinks her grownup name might be Annabelle, but she isn't sure enough to try it out. I think it's a really pretty name but I don't know if it's right for her.
I went on Sahara and Simoun's boat. It's a boat from Mars, so it doesn't go on water. It flies with 4 big machines that shoot out rays to make it go up in the air, and you have to move them back and forth to make the boat go forward, like it's walking. It's really hard work, and you have to be careful to do it even or the boat turns and you get lost, but I'm getting good at it. We flew over the forest by Number-dad and Shoe-auncle's little house and got all the way to Bruno-auncle and Beezer-auncle's house before my arms were too tired!
Bruno and Beezer are 2 great big dogs who are brothers. Bruno is brown and talks a lot, and Beezer is black and doesn't talk very much. They used to be bandits who stole from people who didn't share and gave the money to people who needed it, but now that Dragon-mayor makes people with lots of money share, they don't have to do that and just look out for monsters and mean people and trouble, and teach people how to fight and hide in the forest and follow tracks. Sahara and Simoun like learning that, especially Sahara. Bruno and Beezer aren't married with anyone, but they have 7 puppies with some forest spirits who helped them with a train robbery one time. The puppies live with Bruno and Beezer from summer solstice until winter solstice every year, but they weren't home. They grow up slow like songcats, but they're teenagers like Clover so they run all over and go into town to play with other teenagers and go camping. They're really cool because they can transform and do special techniques, and they're mostly nice, but they're a lttle bit scary too.
Morning and some other kids from school were playing basketball. They got Hebichi and me to play too. Cats can play basketball because we can run with 3 paws and dribble with 1 and jump really high. It was really fun until I got bonked right in the face with the ball. I wanted to play more but everybody got worried because my blood was coming out. I had to tell them it was OK if I sneezed blood a little bit and I won't die. Sometimes people who aren't ultra-modern people have some blood come out and it's OK. It was like the time when I was little and I tried to get on top of the refrigerator but I knocked down a bunch of stuff and some sharp knives. I said I was OK but Dragon-mom heard me say, "Blood, go back in my hand" and I got CAUGHT. Everybody laughed at that story and we played more basketball and my team won because I can jump really high! I can't jump as high as Number-dad, but baskets aren't 5 stories high.
In the Dreamlands, I went to the petting zoo in my zoo. There weren't too many people there, so when I went in the bunny house, all the bunnies were there and jumped right on me when I went upside down. Half-Ear Bunny, Violet Bunny, Black Bunny, White Bunny, Spooky Bunny, Cow Bunny, Tiger Bunny, Leopard Bunny, Grey Bunny, and Brown Bunny is 10 bunnies, and that's a lot to have on your tummy! They squished me a little bit, but they were really warm and smelled like love and I was happy. Zsuzsanna was there too and she rubbed under my chin because I was upside down and I purred so the bunnies wiggled. It was a really happy dream until somebody PULLED MY TAIL! They didn't pull really hard, but it made me wake up.
In the Awake World, I was upside down with bunnies on my tummy too! Flip-Flop and Flim-Flam are only 2 bunnies, but they're really big so I was squished with love. They were on my porch swing because Lilja-auncle was visiting Number-dad and they were talking really quiet so they didn't wake us up, but Faun was pulling on my tail because it was time for pottery class. I didn't want to wake up the bunnies, so I stretched my arm way out long and tickled Number-dad's ear until he came and snuggled beside me. He knew what I wanted because he's a really nice dad. Then we picked up the bunnies really careful and put them by his tummy and they didn't wake up so we did a high 5 and I jumped on Faun and pulled his tail and chased him all the way to pottery class.
When I came home from softball, the bunnies were gone back to the Gram House, but Dmitri was reading on the swing and he was upside down so I used his tummy for a PILLOW and it was nice.
I made a mistake in Magic Singing class. I cried because it really hurt. Sahara and Simoun and Morgan were really nice to me and gave me honey tea to drink, but I think Morgan was only nice because they think I'm a baby kitten and shouldn't learn magic singing. But I'm only 2 years younger than Simoun and Sahara and I'm a songcat so I can learn even if I make mistakes sometimes. It hurt but I didn't get killed or anything.
After class, VV-teacher was VV-gram again and washed my throat. It felt better even though she doesn't have Shoe-auncle's special purring technique. Simoun and Sahara washed my ears. They said they made lots of mistakes when they were first starting to learn magic singing and I shouldn't worry about Morgan. They're just snooty because they do regular singing too and people say they're good at it. Morgan really is good at regular singing. They sing with a chorus and an a cappella group. A cappella is when people sing the instrument sounds too. It's really fun.
I made lots of people happy with FOOD. I got hungry for a bagel egg sandwich so I asked Number-dad if I could make one because we always have to ask before we use the stove. I made it with egg and bacon and mustard and a toasty bagel and I used the circle to make the egg the right size and it was really yummy. Then Number-dad said it smelled good so I made one for him and he gobbled it up with a big smile. Then Dragon-mom and Fairy-mom and Nessie came from soccer practice and they were really hungry because they worked hard, so I made 3 more bagel egg sandwiches. Then Sahara and Simoun came home and yelled that everything smelled good so I made them sandwiches and then Fairy-mom transformed back into a cat so her tummy was bigger and she needed another sandwich and I made one for her and one more for Number-dad because he has the biggest tummy and then we were OUT OF BAGELS! Everybody else who came home was OUT OF LUCK!
I was really happy because I fed so many people. I'm going to tell Imo-teacher and everybody about it when I go to kid cooking class. That's a class where kids learn to cook, not a class about cooking kids. Kids are not for eating!
Simoun said that was a good way to feed people because I'm a town cat, so I can be 7. I'm already 8 but I'm glad she thinks it's OK.
Dmitri and I went to the docks to look at ships and see if any people we know were there. It's in the Dreamlands so lots of the ships are old-fashion, but some are WEIRD, and they have all different people and carry different stuff and there are lots of exciting smells and sometimes the people are PIRATES.
Elephant Cat was there because he works on the docks. He's really big and strong and helps move stuff around. He's a checkerboard cat, so he can be as big as an ellyphant. The checkerboard cats came from across the ocean in a bubble made of leaves when Cat Day was a new thing because they wanted to find out about it, because they're cats even though they're weird. They all have checkerboard fur in 2 colors, but sometimes the squares are so little they look like 1 in-between color and sometimes the squares are so big they look like the cat is half this color and half that color. The cats can be little or big too, from pocket cat sized to big as Elephant Cat or in-between like regular cats. They get extra tails if they're really cool, so Elephant Cat has 2 tails because everybody thinks he's cool for being so big. Only the oldest checkerboard cat, Race-teacher, has 3 tails.
We jumped up on a big stack of boxes and looked at all the ships. There were sailing ships and ships that worked by steam and ships with ocean dinos to pull them and ships that carried fancy cars and ships that carried fish and ships that carried people who had birds on their shoulders except it was the birds that were people and the humans were their PETS and it was really cool. One ship way down at the end was sparkly like crystal and it had really tall people with fancy clothes and I think they were ELVES. They were really pretty and we wanted to find out what elves have in their ships, because it might be magic stuff or stars or doggies with red ears, but when we tried to go down to that dock, Elephant Cat picked us up with his great big paws and put us back up on top of the boxes. He said, "Don't go to that glass ship. Those aren't nice elves. They'll try to steal you." We thought that was a really mean thing to say and we just wanted to go look at the ship and would be really careful, but when we jumped down, Elephant Cat said, "Don't make me sit on you." He was really mean! We cussed at him, but he wouldn't let us go. I got so frustrated that I cried, but he still wouldn't let us go.
2 orange octos crawled out of the water by the elves' ship. They mimicked cats so they could walk on the docks. It was Yachi-auncle and Psi-8-auncle. We didn't ask them if we could look at the crystal ship because we could see it was a trap. The elves had magic to get people to go to their ship, but Psi-8 was blocking it. The elves got really mad and scared and wanted to fight the octos, but Elephant Cat went to help them and we ran to help too. The elves pulled out swords and that was scary, but Number-dad always says we should be brave and try hard to help people so I ran again. I had an IDEA. The elves were yelling at the octos and some of them were trying to fight Psi-8 with brain powers but it wasn't working. One of the elves pointed her sword at me and jumped forward to make me get out of the way so she could run away, because I was the littlest cat, but I yelled the Monster-Defeating Quack that I learned from the duckies at Crocodile Marsh AS LOUD AS I COULD. I don't know if elves are monsters or if she just got surprised because I yelled so loud, but she fell over backwards. I pounced on her sword arm and took her sword away and threw it in the water. She tried to stab me with a knife in her other hand but Dmitri bit her arm until her armor crunched and then Elephant Cat put his big paw on her and she couldn't do anything.
A great big wolf jumped down to where we were and growled at the elves REALLY FIERCE. They said, "Why are you causing trouble here, children of Oberon?" It was Rowan, one of Bruno and Beezer's puppies. The elves got really mad at them because they thought forest spirits should help them, but Rowan said, "My fathers, my cousins, my bosom friends are friends of this town, how then should I turn against them?" People who used to be pirates came with swords and harpoons and guns. The elves gave up. Some teenagers up on the street above the docks yelled and cheered for Rowan. I think Rowan helped a lot but it was Psi-8 and his brain powers that made the elves stop.
Yachi turned all different colors. Dmitri and I both know how to read octo colors and we told everybody that they wanted somebody to go on the ship and make sure the elves didn't steal anybody already. Elephant Cat was too big and the octos had to get back in the water and Rowan doesn't like going inside so it was the old pirates and young kittens who went. The inside of the crystal ship was full of crystal boxes and it looked like you could see what was in them, but that's not what they smelled like because it was a TRICK. I smelled a person on the ship, so we had to look all over until one of the pirates found a little human kid hiding underneath a big pile of boxes.
That kid yelled a lot. "Let me go! I want to run away with the elves! My mom and dad are really mean!" I think they were 5 or 6. The pirates said stuff like "Your mom and dad aren't that mean" and "you don't want to run away", but it didn't help. Dmitri said, "Let me talk to him" and sat on him all big and fluffy. The kid got excited because everybody likes cats. Dmitri said, "The elves are mean too. They'll make you clean toilets and not let you have any toys. You should run away with somebody nice. I can help you find somebody."
Rowan turned back into a standing-up teenager. All their friends came down. "We'll help! We can give you a ride." They had a van. Dmitri went with them and they took the kid to Child Services, which is the people Dragon-mayor told to help any kids who aren't getting taken care of. It was a really good idea.
The elves sailed away in their crystal ship with NO PEOPLE. I sat by the water with Elephant Cat and the pirates and talked to the octos. I was really freaked out by the fighting but Psi-8 helped me calm down. I think I did a good job! Even though people teased me about using magic quacking instead of magic singing or special techniques.
Yachi and Psi-8 have been friends with Number-dad and Shoe-auncle since they were little kids so they're like our auncles. They went to Octopus School, so they know mimicking, which is like transforming except they have the same body, and all different underwater stuff. Psi-8 has BRAIN POWERS, like telepathy, so he can talk to people's brains and mess up the elves' tricks and know when monsters are lurking. They're like Flower-gram and VV-gram, and use their powers to protect underwater towns and hunt monsters. Sometimes they come up on land by mimicking or driving in their OCTOMOBILE. I think an octomobile should have 8 wheels, but it only has 4. It's like a dune buggy with water inside.
I was really sorry to Elephant Cat about cussing at him, but he wasn't mad. He said elves are tricky like that, so nobody likes them. He washed me with his HUGE tongue and everybody laughed. Yachi and Psi-8 and the pirates and Elephant Cat told stories about places they went and monsters they fought. I want to go to the island with friendly dinos and the continent where checkerboard cats come from and the dragon castle at the bottom of the ocean. Maybe someday I will. Dmitri told them about the valley by Northern Shores and the thing with 1 foot, and about Lizard Cliff and the Freckled Lizzies that aren't as mean as the Blue Lizzies but need a dragon to teach them about sharing. I told everybody about the duckies in Crocodile Marsh and how they chased all the crocodiles away with the Monster-Defeating Quack. I felt bad for the crocodiles, but duckies aren't for eating! Some of the tummy-stripe crocodiles are in my zoo now and we take good care of them.
Dmitri and Rowan and all the teenagers came back. They said Jaden's mom and dad weren't very mean and were really worried that they couldn't find him. The Child Services people will help them take better care of him. The pirates were surprised because when they were kids, Child Services didn't help very much. That's because people with too much money were in charge then, before Dragon-mayor made them share. All the pirates looked at Rowan because they were transformed like a human boy with no shirt and they thought their tummy was pretty. Grownups are silly.
Yachi told Dmitri and me we shouldn't do that again because we might get hurt. We said we have to help people so elves don't steal them. Even if we're little, we're songcats and we're really brave! Yachi said I'm more like a duck cat, so I quacked at him and he pretended to blow up. They still don't want us to get hurt.
Dmitri and I didn't want to tell grownups about what we did in case they get mad, but in fighting class, we asked how to fight people with swords and learned some good techniques. Staying back and using long-range attacks is the best!
We told the other kittens about our adventure. Sahara was really cross because Dmitri got to learn magic biting and she didn't, but she's too bitey. Everybody said we were really brave and our tails went all the way up.
Today had lots of SPORTS. The standing-up grownups played soccer against the Wild Horses and won. Zora played lacrosse against the Amazing Whirligigs and lost so she got ice cream. Nico and Rei and Cara didn't play a regular game, but they went to the swimming pool and played water polo. I don't know if they won, but they got ALL WET! I didn't play because it was too rough but Humboldt and the twins did. I practiced jumping off the board into the water so it wouldn't be scary at all.
Our whole big family from Kitten House and Cousin House and Gram House and some pocket foxies too went to the Elephant Ears restaurant and ate Thailand food. I really like green curry eggplants and musaman curry beef and Thailand noodles and laab salad and satay with peanut butter sauce and everything that isn't too spicy. Some things are too spicy but I let Sahara and Simoun and Dragon-mom eat those. We got really round and happy and purred. Zeb-auncle was so full he couldn't walk, because little animals have to eat more, so he rode on my head all the way back to Pocket Fox Manor.
Happy birthday Max!
As soon as Max woke up, she yelled, "MAX 6!" and laughed "EHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Max 6 like Meeper! Like Secret! Max big kid! Bike zoom ALL OVER! Eat blue star." Max is a really weird kitten.
We didn't have a super-big party, but we had dinner at the Gram House with everybody from the Cousin House and Secret and her mom and we ate all stuff Max likes. We had peppery lemon turkey and purple sweet potatoes and sour cream pumpkin and shrimps with spicy catsup and peanut butter soup and it was all really yummy and made Max so happy. For dessert we had ice cream cake with whole blueberries so it was polka dot ice cream, and the cousins brought 6 cupcakes with fancy frosting blue butterflies. Max really likes eating blue flowers and blue butterflies, so she gave Nessie-auncle frosting kisses. There were lots of cupcakes with regular swirly frosting for everybody.
All of Max's siblings gave her a necklace with a crystal that we put magic singing into. It isn't really strong because we're still kittens, but we hope it will protect her. I sang really good for it with no mistakes! She got a fancy hat with flowers that change color and cool sunglasses and an old-fashion telescope with lenses to look for blue stars, and Nessie gave her a motorcycle ride all the way up to the hills to look at the town. It was a really nice party because we all love Max!
Dmitri and I got in trouble for fighting with the elves. I don't know who told, but grownups always talk to each other. We can't ever keep any secrets.
Number-dad and Dragon-mom and Fairy-mom gave us a Talking To. We said Number-dad always tells us to be brave and help people, but Fairy-mom said the number 1 rule of helping people is don't get in trouble and make people have to help YOU. We said Number-dad fought monsters when he was our age, but he said that was only when there wasn't anybody else to do it. If grownups were already taking care of it, he didn't get in the way. I know they weren't trying to be mean, they were just worried that we might get stabbed with swords, but I cried. Dmitri didn't cry but he almost did. They gave us a masquillion hugs and said we're really good and brave but there are lots of ways to help people besides fighting, and if we want to help by fighting, we should learn and practice until we're grown up and strong enough. I know they're right but it's really FRUSTRATING!
I hid in Dmitri's closet with him and we felt bad because grownups thought we did the wrong thing. Clover-auncle squished in with us and said we were really brave and nice but she's glad we didn't fight too much and get hurt. When she was my age, she was really fighty and bitey like Sahara, and she got hurt a lot and hurt other people lot and it was no fun. I don't want to hurt people, but I don't want other people to get hurt. I don't know what to do.
Hebichi and I wanted to sit in the treehouse and let wind blow on us and read comics but when we looked up there, Zora and a teenager we don't know were doing grown-up kissing. We got embarrassed and went to sit on my porch swing instead, and that was nice and Dragon-mom brought us fizzy mint tea and the bubbles went in my nose so I sneezed and made Hebichi laugh, but I was a little bit mad. The treehouse is for kids playing. I got madder when I thought about it. Teenagers shouldn't go in our treehouse and play games other people can't play with them. It was her treehouse first but now it's our treehouse because she's not a kid. My tail got really grouchy so Humboldt pounced on it and when I tried to catch him he squished me and washed my ears. "How come you're so mad?" I didn't do a good job of explaining because I was mad, but he understood. He's a really good big brother. He said, "Don't get madder and madder, talk to ZQ instead."
We went to the Cousin House and got Zora to come out and I said I was really mad at her and she got sad and said she was sorry before I even said why I was mad. I had to hug her a whole bunch and then I couldn't be really mad any more. I told her why I was mad about her stealing the treehouse, and she was sorry more. She said the treehouse is for kids and if somebody else is in it, we can THROW THEM OUT. I imagined picking up Zora and throwing her out of the treehouse and she would make a really funny noise. She wouldn't get hurt because ultra-modern people are really tough. I hugged her a bunch more and she hugged me and Humboldt hugged both of us and everything was OK again. We all went to have supper with our parents and siblings.
I'm not good at being mad. I think that's OK.
Max and Meeper and their friend Secret were really sad after school and when I asked them how come, they said it was because Blossom's blankie died. I got really worried and sad because Blossom lives in the Dreamlands where blankets can be alive. One time Dmitri was a coat and when Nessie was wearing him, he got shot with an arrow! But Secret said the blankie wasn't really alive. Blossom really loved it and it got so torn up by big trompy hippo feet so it can't get fixed, and now Blossom is really sad and doesn't want to go on dream adventures with them.
Blossom is a kid hippo who lives in the Dreamlands and helps protect Secret's dreams. Her dad is Bloomer, who used to be Heather-auncle's dream protecting hippo until he retired and got married with a hippo named Boat Cruncher and they have 2 kids, Blossom and Sprout. Blossom has a flower growing out of her head that looks like a tulip and changes colors to show how she's feeling. Sprout has a tiny plant with leaves growing out of his head. Nobody knows why. That's just how they are!
Secret had a really good idea. In the Awake World, Blossom is a plush hippo that she hugs at night, so she could make a new blanket and wrap it around that hippo so when she dreamed, Blossom would have it. They ran to where Flower-gram was sitting outside the Gram House reading a book and drinking cold juice because it's TOO HOT again today and I ran with them because Blossom is my friend and I want to help her be happy again.
Max said, "Flower-gram, BLANKIE!" but Flower-gram said, "It's too hot for blankets!" Then Secret explained and explained and Flower-gram said, "Somebody is using the clothes machine right now, but by the time you finish designing a blanket, they should be done." Secret gave Flower-gram a big hug and we all sat down to draw what Blossom's new blankie should look like.
Flower-gram is Number-dad's mom who isn't a cat. She's a standing-up lady with cat ears and a cat tail like Zora, but only 1 tail, and her hair is orange-brown and long and curly and she's taller than Dragon-mom and round and cuddly like Devi-auncle and has brown freckles all over. She's Nessie's big sister, but helped her grow up like a mom because she's lots older. I don't know how old she is, maybe 100! She's a really nice gram, but her jobs are being a wizard who protects the town and teaching people magic and hunting monsters, so she's a little bit scary. Sometimes she turns into a boy who looks like a fox and has fur all over and then we call him Ribbon-gram, because VV-gram says he is so pretty he should get a blue ribbon at the foxboy show. I don't know if it's okay to put people in a show, but it's just a funny. Ribbon-gram isn't as scary as Flower-gram even though they're the same person.
Secret and Max and Meeper drew a really pretty blanket with green leaves and blue flowers and they put their faces in the flowers by one side. Then Secret's mom Sara-auncle came to see where Secret was. Secret got in a little bit of trouble for not going home for lunch but Flower-gram gave us rice cakes with peanut butter and jam so Sara-auncle said it was OK for Secret to keep working on the blankie. Sara said, "Do you need any help?" Secret said, "No, Samuel's helping. You can go visit Nessie-auncle. Oh! If you see Rei tell her we need her camera pictures!"
Rei came over with their camera that takes pictures in the Dreamlands and helped us put pictures of Blossom's family in more flowers. They can do that and pet Beethoven at the same time because they have a hand on their tail. Beethoven wanted to help but he's a regular doggie so he's not good with pictures. He's good at catching pieces of rice cake and wagging his tail really cute.
Morning's mom came out of the Gram House with a fancy dress and gave Flower-gram a kiss on the nose and Beethoven a kiss on the ear and me a kiss on top of the head. She likes giving people lots of kisses, just like me. Then it was our turn so we went in and gave our picture to the clothes machine and it went mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm and made the blanket and made a bag to put it in.
Now we're going to have a sleepover at Secret's house to carry the new blankie into the Dreamlands and give it to Blossom. Max and Meeper don't know if they can do it, so they want me to help because I took some purple spinch to the bunnies in my zoo one time.
We're having a really good sleepover with a fun movie and popcorn and lots of cozy blankets, but now all the kids who are 6 and 5 and 7 fell asleep. Secret and her mom live in a big house with lots of other people who have kids but aren't married with anyone to help take care of them, so they all live together and the kids have a masquillion auncles and a masquillion house-cousins. It's like making a family out of a bunch of little families stuck together with love for kids. Secret's 3 best house-cousins, JJ and Huma and Finn, came to have a sleepover with us. I don't think extra people makes it harder to have a dream adventure and they're really nice.
I'm the oldest so I'm staying awake a little bit to finish writing in my journal but now I'm going to sleep too and help take the bag of blanket into the Dreamlands.
We had a good dream adventure. All the kids had lots of plushes to cuddle, but Huma's llamy Señor Bigpants is a dream-helper. I was really surprised! His name is because his legs and bum have really fluffy fur and it makes him look cool. Llamas aren't strong for carrying, but he helped with the blanket. A blanket for a whole hippo is really big, but we had lots of people to help carry it. Scary Froggie was there too, because he always helps Max in her dreams, but he isn't good at carrying things. He's good at causing trouble, but he didn't cause any trouble at the train station. We had enough trouble finding what train stop to go to! Secret never visited on the train so she didn't know what the stop was called and there were lots on the Rush River. We had to guess. We were wrong. When we got off at the Rush River station, there weren't any hippos. Max felt really bad for getting us lost but we weren't lost. We were at a big train station with maps all over. We found one that showed Hippopotamus City next to the Purple Rush River And Little Rush River station. We had to get on a different train anyway.
Hippopotamus City has lots of sidewalks made out of wood. They're like bridges for people who aren't good in the mud. There are lots of purple rushes. Rushes are those plants like bamboo that grow in mud. Every time some rushes were by the sidewalk, Sr. Bigpants ate some. Scary Froggie jumped down to eat fish and then jumped back up to lick us with a big tongue that smelled like chewed-up fish. Everybody thought that was gross. It was early in the morning so most hippos were still at home except one old lady hippo who looked at us. "What are you creatures doing here?" It was pretty scary because hippos are really big and they get really ferocious when you make them mad. Secret said, "We're taking a present to Boat Cruncher's house." because she's brave. The hippo looked at us for a long time but then she went away. I was really glad!
Blossom answered the door when we knocked and I could tell she was really sad. Her flower was dark brown and black. She said, "I don't want to play today. I don't feel good." Secret said, "That's why we came to visit you." Everybody said, "HI BLOSSOM!" and Blossom fell over because she didn't think so many new kids and llamys were going to be at her house! Secret said, "Look, we brought you a PRESENT!" and she gave the big bag to Blossom, who pulled it open with her tooth and fell over AGAIN! She yelled and danced around and waved her new blankie and her flower turned yellow and her mom and dad and little brother came to see what was so loud. Everybody was really happy for Blossom! It was a really good morning. Bloomer and Boat Cruncher made pancakes for everybody. Ultra-modern kids eat a lot, but not as much as hippos. The new kids asked about Boat Cruncher's name and then they said they would never drive a boat on her river without asking. Hippopotamuses are scary, even hippos.
Everybody woke up really happy.
Zora said I was really nice for helping Max and Meeper and Secret help Blossom but I think it was a pretty regular thing to do. Maybe she's saying nice stuff about me because she still feels sorry about the treehouse. It's OK.
