This week, the last chapter of DRIFTING IN THE GREEN DREAM came out. Dmitri SHRIEKED when he started reading it, but by the end he was CRYING because it made him so full of FEELINGS. I haven't been reading it because it has too much SNOGGING, but maybe I'll read it since I know the ending is REALLY GOOD.
Lam, Betsy-artist's next series is going to start right away. It's called HUMMINGBIRD CASTLE and it's about kids MY age and their secret fort and MYSTERIOUS things that happen there. It looks really INTERESTING.
Number-dad said TOWERS OF THE SUN is going to end after the next chapter, at least for now. He's going to work on other projects, and maybe teach some CLASSES. He's a really good artist because he HELPS other artists!
At the beginning of the week, I was still grounded from Choir class and had to practice SAFE singing with Number-teacher and VV-teacher. It was really HARD, because when people are doing magic singing, I want to HELP. I had to learn to just do the SINGING part and not the MAGIC part. It was like NOT thinking about a mastydon with a blue sweater. That's really hard, but I can do it because I'm learning to be a WIZARD. The trick is to make an empty shape in your MIND like what you're not thinking about, so it COVERS UP the thing, but magic doesn't have a shape. First, I listened to what people were singing and figured out a NEGATIVE MELODY to it, but I couldn't sing the POSITIVE melody when I was doing that, so it was no good for choir. I think it's a good way to DISPEL other magic singing, though, so I'm going to work on that more. It wasn't until Wednesday that I figured out the negative MAGIC, but then I sang REALLY POWERFUL with VV-teacher and Number-teacher and there wasn't any magic AT ALL. I was really PROUD that I figured it out!
Yesterday I went back to Choir class and SANG. Number-dad sat at the back of the room doing a little bit of drawing and a lot of looking BIG and ORANGE, but he didn't have to do any SQUISHING of people who did accidental magic. When we were done practicing, I snuggled in his LAP and all the other choir people gave us lots of PETTING. I felt REALLY proud like the best magic singer ever, even though I'm NOT. I need to be careful about how big my HEAD is!
Everybody was really HAPPY I came back to Choir class. I didn't know they liked me so much, but they DO. That made me so happy I CRIED a little bit. I'm really glad I have a lot of friends!
Tiny Squeak is still WIGGLY and BELOVED. She hasn't learned any NEW techniques, but she's getting better and better at IMITATING sounds, and EATING rainbow-colored things. VV-gram has started taking her to a PLAY GROUP sometimes so she can play with other babies. Hebichi and I went along one time when it wasn't during any of our classes, and it was really CUTE. Lots of round babies rolled and wiggled and crawled, and some of them WALKED a little bit, and ALL of them tried to EAT each other and throw toys and cuddle their moms and SHRIEK. Hebichi said that's EXACTLY how Toka was when they were that young.
Peanut Butter Dragon came back to the Dragon Clinic to get his leg checked, and he left with his brace OFF. Shoe-auncle said he needs to take it EASY for a while, and put the brace back on if his leg gets sore, but he did a really GOOD job of healing. Hurray, Dragon 84!
LN went to her human doctor, but she doesn't get to take her brace off because she was too ROWDY with her leg. She has to keep it on for another WEEK. Jeanne and Dmitri gave her a lot of hugs, but she's still really CROSS with everything and doesn't want to play Robot Maze or any other sitting-down games. She watches a lot of shows and SULKS.
Truffle was really GROUCHY because in her Awake World she had to go to the VET and she really didn't like it. We sniffed her all over and she smells really HEALTHY now, so I think she ate something that upset her tummy a little bit. Be careful what you eat, Truffle!
The Exploration Club finished fixing up VULTURE QUEEN JILL and went on a VOYAGE around some islands that you can just see from the hills above the docks. Cattail and I got to go too, because we helped with the repairs. It was REALLY fun! It was a really NICE day with a medium breeze so sailing worked just right, and we saw a bunch of dolphins and some WHALES and a boat full of FISHING cats. We dropped anchor on the other side of the island, by a beach where a bunch of people were swimming, and ate lunch and threw leftovers to the GULLS. I did some FIDDLING and everybody sang SHANTIES while we sailed back.
We found a few things that need to be fixed, but VULTURE QUEEN JILL is almost SEAWORTHY. Maybe we'll sail to the Checkerboard Continent.
We visited DAPPER CAPYBARA and they're doing really good too. The sailing weasels and pirate cats and Zig-Zag and everybody worked hard, and now they're ready to GO. Rose-auncle and Clover-auncle and Oona and Rafe helped too, but so did SIMOUN. She finished 2 meerbots that Aimée had started, and they're RIGBOTS. They look like big pink crabs, but their claws are ROLLERS that clamp down on lines and reel them in or out really POWERFUL. They have lots of feet that clamp onto rails and masts and things to hold them in place, and cool EYESTALKS. Rigbot-2 has 1 set of big rollers and 1 set of medium ones, and Rigbot-3 has 2 medium and 1 small, so they can get all kinds of lines.
When I first saw the rigbots, I got really ANXIOUS because I was afraid if they fell overboard they would just SINK and be stuck at the bottom of the ocean FOREVER, but Simoun thought of that. She gave them FLOTATION BAGS that pop out with a FWOOMP. 2 bags is enough to keep a rigbot afloat, but they have space for 5, so they're REALLY safe from sinking. They have bright colors so it's easy to find them and rescue them, too. Good job, Simoun!
It's a little WEIRD to have ROBOTS on a sailing ship, but the Dreamlands are like that.
Finally we can get to the stone circle in Cryptotherium Valley. The smell is still pretty awful, and there are a lot of FLIES, but we sang the Don't Bug Us Song a lot and it was OK. The stones got TILTED some by the avalanche, and when the snow melted, it made a lot of PLANTS grow all over them, but we got them straightened up and cleaned off and now it's a good hill for learning Dancing Spider Glyphs again. We did some REVIEW. Cattail was really good at moving the stones and then he was really good at writing glyphs, so Cally-teacher said he and Jackie can be in the class. Sonny and Maz don't understand about writing, so they don't care if they're in the class. They're animals so they barely understand about talking! They all understand about LOVE, though.
It's been really SUNNY and WARM in the Awake World. Everybody likes sleeping OUTSIDE and going SWIMMING and taking SUNSHINE NAPS. It's really nice! In the Dreamlands, it's still rainy sometimes, but not very much and it always blows over really QUICK. It makes flowers grow EVERYWHERE. Number-dad REALLY likes that. I like it too, but Max likes it LOTS because there's more BLUE flowers for her to eat. She's still WEIRD.
We had a big FAMILY MEETING on Monday. It wasn't just everybody in our house, but the Cousin House and the Gram House and Clover too. We talked about sailing on the DAPPER CAPYBARA with Nelson-captain and everybody. All the grownups said the Exploration Club can go, but then they said if it was OK with the Exploration Club, we would ALL go and it would be the extra vacation we wanted. I was afraid the explorers would say NO WAY because they wanted it to be just their expedition, but they all said YES.
I thought it was kind of MEAN to make Humboldt and Dmitri and Rei decide like that, because it would have been really hard for them to say no, but then I thought about it more and thought probably the grownups checked with them FIRST and only asked so the explorers could be COOL. Later I asked Humboldt, and I was RIGHT.
We ALL got anxious thinking about Tiny Squeak on a sailing ship, but VV-gram says she already went on a BOAT and was OK, so if she's OK going on DAPPER CAPYBARA's shakedown cruise with OCEAN waves, then she can come. VV-gram already got a tiny SAFETY HARNESS for her, so she can't fall overboard, and even if she gets out of it and falls in, baby kittens are really plump and FLOATY and there will be a masquillion grownups to help her. I was still a LITTLE worried, but VV-gram said that if she thought there were going to be any problems that a whole crew of sailor weasels and our family of explorers and monster-hunters and WIZARDS couldn't handle, she wouldn't let ANYBODY go. She's right that our family is really POWERFUL. If any SEA SERPENT tries to eat Tiny Squeak, they'll be SORRY.
Our parents talked to Pixie and Cara's parents, so they can go with the rest of the Exploration Club, but the rest of us don't know if OUR friends can come too. CATTAIL can, but Hebichi and Spin are still asking their PARENTS, and Nelson-captain has to decide how many people can go, and I'm really WORRIED that people will get left out.
Toka REALLY wants to come explore a new continent that's full of new kitties.
Tiny Squeak won't get left out, though, because she went on a VOYAGE with her mom and some auncles, and didn't get seasick AT ALL. Flower-gram said the waves were pretty big, but Mlle. Squeaks just held onto the deck with her sharp CLAWS and squawked back at the SEAGULLS. Good job, Tiny Squeak! You can be a PIRATE!
Nelson-captain says we should set sail next week. I hope we get all the ships and supplies and PEOPLE in order before then.
There was a problem with the sheepies at my zoo. Stewart, that's one of the young sheepies who works at the petting zoo, was napping on the giant HEDGIETUMMY before the zoo opened, but when we opened and visitors came, he wouldn't MOVE. Zsuzsy was a little bit mad, but the older sheepies were REALLY mad. They said Stewart wasn't MATURE enough to interact with visitors and grounded him from working in the petting zoo until his ATTITUDE gets better. He cried a lot, but they didn't change their minds. I think that was a LITTLE BIT unfair, but they're right that if you're going to work at the zoo, visitors have to come first!
Maybe the sheepies who are working at the vacation house will let him work with them, although there isn't a giant hedgiehog there.
I did Magic Singing Class again this week, because now I can sing SAFE. Everybody said welcome back, but then it was just a regular class. We practiced the Let's Not Do Anything Reckless Song. I don't think that would have helped the leopard kittens, but it's a good song for LOTS of problems.
LN finally got the brace off her leg, but she's not supposed to do sports for 2 MORE WEEKS. When she told us about that, she made really WEIRD faces. Dmitri said she can do SWIMMING, but she thought that was a FLIRT and clobbered him a little bit. Teenagers are WEIRD. I'm glad LN has her leg back.
We started learning Dancing Spider Glyphs again, but we ran out of what Cally-auncle knows, so we're all learning TOGETHER. We take turns reading from the TEXTBOOKS and having discussions. I don't know if everybody likes this kind of class, but I do. Maybe the giant porcypines do too, because they come and sit at the edge of the firelight and listen. I think maybe even the CRYPTOTHERIA listen, because sometimes the wind changes and we can SMELL them, but they're still really sneaky.
The farm is doing really good. We're going to have spring onions and spring carrots soon, those are ones that we take out to make the rows less CROWDED, and asparagus and ROCKET are almost ready. Rocket is usually called arugula, that's a leafy bitter green for salads and sandwiches, but I like calling it rocket because it sounds LOTS cooler.
It's been a good week, but in the Dreamlands, everybody is really BUSY with the SHIPS. In the Awake World, we're talking about the expedition and thinking about what it will be like and sometimes taking NAPS, so we're only doing regular stuff.
I dreamed that we got visited by a HUGE bunny. She was as big as Fairy-mom! I thought she was SKETCHY because she smelled like one of the girls who almost set the forest ON FIRE fighting over Parsel, but Truffle came running and crashed into the bunny headfirst, and purred and rubbed her cheeks on her and KNEADED her and purred really LOUD. That bunny was Truffle's MOM! Nameko and Pierce rubbed their sides on her too, but she isn't THEIR mom.
The bunny scolded us about giving Truffle the wrong FOOD. I thought she was being sketchy again, but she had a note from Truffle's vet saying that Truffle should only eat POACHED chicken and pureéd PUMPKIN so her tummy stays happy and her pooping works right. I would be REALLY sad if that was all I could eat, but HOUSECATS don't mind eating the same thing every day. Most animals are like that, which makes keeping them in zoos LOTS easier!
Truffle's mom wanted to know if JACKIE was for eating, but they blew green fire at her and hid behind Cattail and Hebichi came running over to protect their pumpkin monster. We won't let anybody eat you, Jackie! Not even Truffle's mommy!
Hebichi and Dmitri and I told Truffle's mom how Truffle is being a really GOOD pirate cat and Nelson-captain always says nice things about her, and she was REALLY happy. That made Truffle so happy she rolled over and her back and purred and wiggled around to get her tummy petted. You're the cutest, Truffle!
When we woke up, Hebichi and Dmitri and I all still thought that bunny was sketchy, but we know she really loves Truffle. Fairy-mom helped me get a bunch of chicken in an insulated box and some big cans of pureéd pumpkin, and I'm going to go to sleep ON the pile of food to carry it to the expedition for Truffle. I don't know if what Truffle dreams about eating can make her sick, but I don't want to take that CHANCE. I want my friend Truffle to be healthy!
Simoun and I took the special Truffle food to Albon, that's the DAPPER CAPYBARA cook, and told him all about it, and he said he'd make sure Truffle gets her special diet so she can stay HEALTHY. Albon knows Truffle and Pierce and Nameko aren't people, so they need EXTRA care. He's really nice!
Albon has a big burn scar because he used to be a GUNNER when Nelson-captain still did piracies, but he likes being a cook lots more. I'm glad Dragon-mayor made everything better so people can be nicer and have better lives now.
Today we had a watching party for EUROVISION. That's where all the countries in Europe and some of their friends have a SONG CONTEST. It's the first big song contest, so it's been going almost every year for a REALLY long time. I like it because the songs are all different, but the staging is always really WILD. When people are voting, there's a lot about how people feel sorry for countries that are having a bad year, and some countries don't like each other, and some countries are scared of other countries, so it isn't always the BEST song that wins, but I think this year was OK. I really liked Scotland's song because it was SPOOKY and had WEREWOLVES, but Saint Petersburg's song with DRUMMING and twirling SCARVES was really good too, and they both did OK. The L5 Association and Greece TIED for the win, which hardly ever happens, so they were both REALLY happy. It was nice to watch the people hugging each other and crying because they were so happy and everybody cheering for them.
It's a good contest because whatever country wins has to be the HOST next year, and that's pretty expensive, so it's like whoever wins games having to buy ice cream. Greece and L5 had the person who checks that all the votes are OK flip a COIN to see where it's going to be next year, and it's going to be in L5! Greece will help pay for it, though.
Hebichi and I went to the SKATE PARK and skateboarded with a bunch of kids we didn't know. They're mostly older than us and they're all lots better than us, but they were really NICE and gave us lots of advice and cheered for us. I did lots of kickturns and kickflips and then I SHOWED OFF by singing the Get Over There Faster Song so I went all the way up and WAY OVER THE TOP of the wall, and turned around to come zooming back down without falling off. I was REALLY PROUD and everybody said I was really GREAT. Keep up the hard work, Samuel!
Lots more happened with the EXPEDITION this week, so we haven't left yet.
Shoe-auncle said it would be really GREAT to go, but he's worried about his Dragon Clinic just like I'm worried about my ZOO, and he's a GROWNUP so he does have to be responsible. The dragons heard he wanted to go, so they had a DRAGON MEETING and decided that it would be OK if some dragons went on the expedition, because then Shoe-auncle could be their MEDIC. He's the best dragon doctor in the city, but he isn't the ONLY one, so the dragons who stay home will be OK like before the Dragon Clinic opened.
When the dragons told Nelson-captain what they decided, he squacked and said he wasn't sure the ships are BIG ENOUGH. Then Bruno and Beezer's puppies, that's Ash, Briar, Juniper, Laurel, Rowan, Thorn, and Willow, said maybe they could help. They have ADVENTURES when I'm not looking, so now they have a SHIP. Maybe it's more like a forest in the SHAPE of a ship, because it's all rooty and has huge LEAVES for sails. The puppies wouldn't say what its name is, so Zigzag said it's BAD LUCK to have a ship without a name, but it does have a name, it's just SECRET. Now Annabelle and Max's friend Secret REALLY wants to ride on it, because she has a secret name TOO.
The puppies' mangrove is a little bit bigger than DAPPER CAPYBARA but it isn't a clipper, so it's SLOWER. Getting it ready will make us leave later, and the voyage will take longer, but Nelson-captain says it's OK because it will be safer to go with more people and more supplies and more SHIPS for in case of problems. We'll have more DRAGONS too! Checkyboard and Polky Dot are coming, and the rest of the dragons are trying to decide which 2 are coming.
Edward-gram REALLY wants to come too, because he studies how cats in different places live their LIVES. Tansy-gram isn't sure, because she has a LOT of sheepies to take care of, but I hope she comes. In the Dreamlands, lots of the sheepies are at my zoo or other safe places for WORK, and the others can go to the No-Carnivore Valley if they don't have any sheepcats to guard them. But they do, because Cally-auncle and Pounce-auncle and Golden Bear can take care of them while Tansy is AT SEA.
Ruffur wants to come too, because he wants to come to see if the checkerboard kitties have any neat INVENTIONS. Most of the sheepies like staying at home, but not Evan or Monster Sheep or Posey or Parker, because they want to come too!
Our parents talked to other parents, and lots of our friends can come. Spin and Hebichi and Toka and Secret and Ouma and Frillist and Jean are all going to come with us! Maybe other people will be there SOMETIMES, because the Dreamlands are MYSTERIOUS and dream adventures aren't always IN ORDER.
Then we got even MORE friends, because Expedition Pengies Julia and Thomas came to visit with Boogie and Chibi Moosa and Jaunty Jonquil Spider and Lurking Lemon Spider! They wanted to see my zoo and all the really great animals, but when they heard about the expedition they wanted to come too. Nelson-captain made a weird face, but the puppies said they had room for a lot of cans of spidie drink, and for dragons too. This is a HUGE expedition!
In the Awake World, we did lots of regular stuff, and we went SWIMMING a lot because it's really SUNNY. We had WATER BUBBLE fights too, because in the afternoons it got really HOT. It felt really SUMMERY and I was really happy and didn't feel like any of my problems were big. I felt braver about BIKE RACING too, but I still didn't do very good. It was OK because I liked riding my bike with my sisters and my friends and everybody cheering for me. You can do it, Samuel!
Clover has been standing up so much that she already has FRECKLES. I think it's because she likes wearing summer-time flirting dresses and swimsuits, because she's a teenager, but the freckles across her nose are really CUTE. Maybe when I learn to stand up, I can get cute freckles too. Maybe I'll just turn brown and pretty like Nico.
Tiny Squeak has been going outside A LOT. If she didn't have fur, she might have freckles now! She's good at imitating birds so they get CONFUSED and come down to look at her because she looks really WEIRD for a bird. She learned to laugh like Max, too, which makes her Mum roll her eyes, but Max is REALLY happy. They sit in the sunshine and Max reads a baby book to Tiny Squeak and they CACKLE together at the funny parts. I don't think Tiny Squeak understands the books to know which parts are funny, she just cackles when Max does.
Tiny Squeak still can't walk, but she can roll all over the yard and scoot on the porch and wiggle through the grass and SIT UP. Good work, Mlle. Squeaks!
Number-dad published the last chapter of TOWERS OF THE SUN for now, and now he's working on CURRICULUMS for classes to teach. He's a really GREAT artist because he wants other people to be good too! He said maybe he'll stop by the DRAWING GROUP too. I hope he does.
The other thing I wanted to write is that I got tickets to the SQUAMOUS STEVE concert! I got tickets for me and Spin and Hebichi and Blond Dmitry, but my Dmitri and Jean and the twins and their friends and Humboldt got tickets too, so there are going to be a BUNCH of us there. It's going to be really FUN.
Truffle was really worried about her MOM, because she smells bad and she sleeps all the time instead of going to play with her friends. Truffle is giving her a lot of extra love to keep her from dying, but she doesn't know if it's WORKING. That made me worry to, so I had Truffle bring her mom to visit us in the Dreamlands. Nameko's mom came too. She's a big kitty, too, and she's really brown and nice! She said Truffle's mom just has a COLD, that's a kind of germ that humans and other regular mammals get a LOT. They sat with us and got lots of SCRITCHES and Truffle felt better and we talked about EUROVISION. In their Awake World, Ukraine won because it was a year when Russia was invading them, but their song was really good anyway, so nobody minded. The United Kingdom, that's Wales and Scotland and England before they split up, did REALLY good, so maybe that's the year they start being good in that Awake World. France had a great song that didn't get very many points, and Serbia had a really WEIRD song about washing hands that did pretty good. They had too many BALLADS, so they were glad to hear that someday Eurovision will be all EXCITING songs. It was a nice visit and I really like Nameko's mom. Truffle's mom is kind of GROUCHY but maybe that's because she's sick. Maybe bunnies that can talk are NATURALLY grouchy, though.
I read a weird old manga about a lady who moves into an OLD house, and meets a WEIRD cat who can change size and shape and acts weird and spits out more of himself and fluffs up so big he FLOATS AWAY except maybe some of what happens is weird DREAMS. When he spits out more of himself or swallows them back up, it reminds me of how I can be LOTS of cats when I'm a liquid. I don't think the artist knew about the Dreamlands, because it's pretty old, but maybe they had DREAMS about cats like that. Maybe I can learn to do all that stuff. Maybe it's just a manga. I felt bad for the creepy cats, though, because it said they don't like wizards because they used to SUMMON and BIND them. That's really rude! If a wizard ever tries to summon and bind me, I'll YELL at them!
We finally got everything IN ORDER for the expedition to the Checkerboard Continent and SET SAIL. We have 3 ships and a MASQUILLION people. Edward-gram and Tansy-gram and Shoe-auncle all came, and we got 5 dragons because Cold-Mouth Dragon and Dragon 199 are LITTLE so they both got to come with the 37 twins and Shiny Horns Dragon. We have 6 sheepies too, that's Parker and Posey and Evan and Monster Sheep and Sequeira and Mondal, and some cabybaras that aren't from my zoo but showed up and LOOKED at Nelson-captain until he let them board. We have all the people who wanted to come before too, even Secret and her mom and Toka and his kitties. I'm glad nobody had to STOW AWAY, because that would make Nelson-captain really MAD.
Some people wanted to know why we have to go to the Checkerboard Continent instead of asking the checkerboard cats so I should write that down for when people read this journal in the FUTURE. When Race-teacher and Elephant Cat and everybody came here to find out about our Cat Day, they had a GEAS, that's like a magic promise, to not tell anything about where they came from. That was because they didn't know FOR SURE that we were going to be nice. I think they were REALLY BRAVE to come visit us anyway! Now it's our turn to be brave and visit their continent even though we don't know anything about it.
I thought I could copy the LOGBOOKS of the ships for the expedition journal, but real logbooks are BORING. They have lots about weather and where the wind came from and how much food is left and like that, so I won't copy that stuff. I'll write about the interesting things that happened like usual. Lots of days are just sailing and weather, though.
I'm mostly sailing on VULTURE QUEEN JILL with the Exploration Club, and so are Hebichi and Spin. We're all really GOOD sailors, but the grownups said we have to have somebody RESPONSIBLE to be our captain. Zora said she could do it, but the grownups think she might make bad decisions about pretty girls, like when she went to a SNOGGING PARTY instead of doing her homework. That made her feel REALLY BAD. The Exploration Club said they still wanted her to sail with us, but Nico has to be captain for now. The ships get together every day when the wind isn't too strong, so people can change ships, so maybe we'll have a different captain later. Maybe the grownups will see Zora being really responsible and say she can be captain. You can do it, Zora!
We sailed past a lot of islands that are already on our maps, and waved to the people there and stopped once to buy some barrels of salted fish in case we need more food later. That took 3 days. Sailing is always exciting, but it wasn't REALLY exciting. I stayed on VULTURE QUEEN JILL, but we signalled to DAPPER CAPYBARA with FLAGS so we knew Tiny Squeak and everybody were OK. Nessie-auncle sailed with us for the first part of the voyage, and Nico was ANXIOUS about having his mom watching him be our captain, but she said he did a good job. Hurray for Nico-captain! Dragon-mom traded places with Nessie-auncle after we passed the islands, so now Humboldt and Dmitri are anxious, but I think they'll do a good job too.
Tiny Squeak is doing REALLY GOOD at sea. She's sailing on DAPPER CAPYBARA, because her mum thinks that's the safest ship, but she gets to visit the other ships when we get together so everybody can tell her she's GREAT. She's really good at holding onto the deck with her claws and YELLING at birds and trying to eat LINES. Sometimes her mum has to take her belowdecks so she isn't in the way, but she gets to spend lots of time in the fresh air and sunshine with the weasels and cats and everybody being nice to her. Everybody loves Tiny Squeak!
When we were almost out of sight of the last island on the map, that's the one with FISHING cats where we bought the salted fish, a masquillion GULLS tried to steal all our food before we could carry it away into the ocean. That's not polite, gulls! Humboldt ROARED at them to scare them away, and they all flew away in a HUGE flock. It was scary! Then we saw a gull that fell on the deck THUMP, and I was really WORRIED that they were DEAD like a bunny that gets too scared. I sang the Please Don't Be Dead Song as POWERFUL as I could, and Glizando, that's a capybara, booped them with his snoot, and they jumped right up and POOPED all over the deck. That wasn't polite either!
We thought the gull would fly away with the others, but they perched on the railing and watched Glizando and stole a LITTLE piece of Cara's sandwich. They're a CALAMARI GULL, that's a kind of gull that's famous for DIVING to hunt little squids but eats everything like other gulls, and they have a MEDIUM amount of brown on their wings instead of a lot like a boy gull or a tiny bit like a girl gull. They stayed on our ship even when Humboldt roared again, so we think they're friends with Glizando now. Capybaras have friendship magic! Jean said the gull's name is Podge, and Glizando looked happy with that.
Later Humboldt said he was really glad Podge wasn't dead, and I said I wasn't mad at him for roaring. He was trying to save our FOOD without hurting anybody. He's a good brother.
I got to snuggle with Glizando when I was on night watch before that, but then Glizando was always with his new friend Podge and I had to snuggle Fortizimo. He's a warm capybara, but he's a really WIGGLY sleeper. Maybe that's good because it keeps me AWAKE, but he has SHARP elbows.
It's REALLY GREAT that we're on a VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY.
Because things in the Dreamlands aren't always IN ORDER, last night I dreamed I was sitting in the park with Number-Dad talking about ALL KINDS of things. We got to where I had to say, "Is there ANYTHING that isn't better with dinos?" and Number-Dad said, "Maybe kisses?" but then he squacked and fell over because Maz SLURPED his face! She ran away to play with Sonny and the other doggies, but her feathers were up really PROUD because she did what a really important splendid person said. I was WRONG when I said she didn't know any words, because she knows important words like KISS and GET THAT. She's a really great dino!
Spin tried to kiss MY face, but I turned so I caught the kiss right on my MOUTH, MWAH. I don't have feathers, but I have a TAIL to be proud with.
Zora says she's the best at teenager kisses, but I think I'm the best at NICE kisses. I can't say that out loud or people will TEASE me, but I can write it here. Now people won't tease me until I'm a grownup and my KITTENS read this.
The other nice thing that happened in the park is LN played soccer with Jeanne and Blond Dmitry and everybody. Her leg is ALL BETTER now. Hurray for LN!
Exciting things happened in the Awake World too. There was lots of wind all week, so people flew lots of KITES. There was some kite FIGHTING, but lots of flying kites just for fun. Lots of people put cameras on their kites so they could look at the town from way up high, and that gave Bina and Gobi and Morning a REALLY COOL idea. They made a HUGE kite that could carry a KID and flew it at the forest park on the edge of town. They're all ultra-modern kids so they're REALLY tough, and they didn't fly too high, so it was really OK even though it made me ANXIOUS to watch them. They let some other kids fly on it too, but it was Bina who was on the kite when a HUGE gust of wind made it fly WAY UP and then broke it. Everybody SHRIEKED and RAN to catch Bina, but they held onto the pieces of the kite and the wind blew them all the way to the far end of the park before they hit the ground. They knew to let go and get as flat as they could at the last minute, so their nose got CRUNCHED and BLOODY and their whole front was BRUISES, but they weren't dead. Grownups came and said NO WAY to more flying on kites, even though Bina said they were OK. They got in a LOT of trouble. I don't think that was fair, because they were COMPLETELY OK at school the next day, and now they know where kites need extra REINFORCEMENT, but all of their parents were really FIERCE about it. My parents said all of us kittens better not even TRY anything like that, which made Humboldt and the twins and Max sulk, but we aren't ultra-modern so our bones can get BROKEN and if we fall from way up high, we can DIE. Don't die, people I love!
Another day, I saw Humboldt reading and not paying attention, so I snuck up behind him really QUIET and then POUNCED on him and ATE HIS EARS so he squacked and squacked. I was really PROUD of how sneaky I was, so I went to find somebody else to pounce on. Tiny Squeak was outside with her mum, but she was with Beethoven and Flim-Flam and Flip-Flop, and you should NEVER startle bunnies. They can get TOO SCARED and that's really BAD for them. Nico was sitting in the swing on his porch reading, so I snuck around the house to POUNCE on him from behind. He was so suprised he threw me onto the grass and I almost fell on VV-gram! Nico was really sorry about throwing me, and said I was good at sneaking and should learn to be a NINJA. That made me even more PROUD, so I tried to sneak up on ROSE-AUNCLE when she was writing on the porch of the Gram House. I went all the way around to the street so I could come up on the side of the house with only high windows, where she couldn't see through to notice me, and I sang the I'm Not Here Song inside, but as soon as I peeked around the corner, she WHIRLED and POUNCED on me and ate MY ears! It was because I had HUBRIS. That's when your head gets TOO BIG and you think NOTHING can stop you, but then you get a DISASTER because you were WRONG. Rose-auncle laughed and laughed when I said that, and asked where I got that word. I thought it was a regular word that everybody knows, but we all got it from MEGALOMACHY. Rose-auncle said it sounded like a very educational show, but she didn't know because she'd never seen it! I made her come sit in the treehouse with me and watch the first 3 episodes, because MEGALOMACHY is REALLY GREAT and EVERYBODY should see it! Sometimes grownups pretend to something that kids like because they're SUPPORTIVE, but I think Rose-auncle REALLY likes MEGALOMACHY. It isn't historical, it's fantasy, but it has lots of historical REFERENCES she got, and she laughed and laughed. We'll have to get her to watch more with us!
Lots of things that weren't exciting happened too. Our vegetables in the garden are getting bigger. Dmitri got perfect scores on a bunch of tests by STUDYING. We practiced a new song in Choir, A MILLION BUBBLES, that I really like, and a new piece in Orchestra, ECTOPLASM, that I don't like very much. It's mostly WIND instruments, so Hebichi and I feel a little bit left out. It's a pretty song to listen to, though!
I gave really good KISSES to all my friends, and we did snuggles and bike races and sleepovers in the big treehouse in the park with a MASQUILLION kids. We did sleepovers in my treehouse with just a few kids that we REALLY love, too. I went to board games night and played lots of games and won a few. Good job, Samuel!
It was a pretty good week.
We finished sailing over the deep water and got back to shallower water. I couldn't tell, but Nelson-captain could tell because the ocean looks GREENER. People looked at him funny when he said it doesn't have anything to do with DAPPER CAPYBARA having a SONAR sensor, but I believe him. He sailed all over before he had the DAPPER CAPYBARA.
Shallower water means ISLANDS, but we only found little islands so far. We had ships sail on opposite sides of the islands and that was enough to get a good look at them and see nobody lived there. Podge flew to look at them, but they always flew back to VULTURE QUEEN JILL because the islands didn't have CAPYBARAS to be friends with. I helped Dmitri draw MAPS of the islands. It was hard to put them all on a map together, though, because it was hard to tell how far apart they are. Our maps are good enough for now, though. Maybe later we can take the time to do a better job, or maybe somebody ELSE will sail this way.
Shallower water means we had to sail more CAREFUL, though, and not at night when we wouldn't be able to see SHOALS. Cats and ultra-modern people are good at seeing in the dark, but the water makes it really DIFFICULT so we drop anchor at night.
