I dreamed I was a little octo swimming on the bottom of the ocean looking for a hole. Octos really like holes. First I tried a hole in a coral reef, but it was too sharp. Then I tried a muddy hole in the ground, but it was too squishy and there was a long fish who didn't want visitors. Finally I found a wrecked ship and it had lots of hole. Some of the holes already had animals living in them, but I found a really good one to hide in and it made me happy. I was thinking about sneaking out to eat some yummy crabs when a fishie with a long piece of coral came in. I talked to her by changing colors, and she talked to me by dancing. She said the WRONG WHALE was chasing her to eat her up, so I said she could hide in my hole. Octos are good at squishing in with people. Then the Wrong Whale came and said he wanted to eat that fish, but I showed him my BLUE RINGS and he didn't want to fight. He talked to us by singing. He was really hungry so he went and ate a shark that couldn't talk. It was messy and gross because he used his saws to cut the shark into SLICES and sucked them in, but the fishie and I got some of the pieces and they were yummy. We swam around together and found a beautiful sea dragon with lots of green frills and some sabertooth seals and lots of other underwater friends. Some of them had to breathe air so we went up to the surface and there was a ship there. A lot of us got scared, but they weren't whalers or fishers. They were PIRATES so we made friends with them too. It was really nice, because even when I'm an octo, I like being friends with people. We floated on top of the ocean and looked at the stars and moons and comets and auroras. Underwater eyes aren't good at seeing things far away, but we could tell how pretty the sky is.
My Halloween dream was ALL WET, but when I woke up with all different nice kids on me, I heard stories about other people's dreams. Sabertooth Fox Bina said a forest spirit gave them 1 bite of chicken and said there was lots more at a barbecue in the forest, but really there was a HUNGRY TREE. Foxes like chicken a lot, but they're really smart, so they figured out it was a trap and turned their cape into a glider and flew away and the tree was still hungry. Then Humboldt and my Dmitri said a forest spirit gave them cookies and said there was lots more at a bakery, but there wasn't a bakery, just HUNGRY TREE. It wasn't big enough to eat dinos, though, so they got away and the tree was still hungry. It's not OK to eat people, but I felt bad for the tree. Then Cara and Rei told us how Cara got an ultra-modern teenager with big orange hair to go to the tree with her, and that teenager was too tough to get eaten, but got her big brother the Famous Tiger to bring some venison for the tree. Then some more teenagers came from OUTER SPACE and shared food from their food machine, and a whole bunch of teenagers and some grownups had a nice party with lots of yummy food and the tree wasn't hungry. I think Rei was grouchy because they wanted to be a scary monster tree, not a tree everybody felt sorry for, but Cara hugged them a lot and that made them happier.
It was still early so lots of us went back to sleep and had some more dreams. I helped the pirates fix their ship when it got crunched on a reef because octos are really good with their tentacles. Then I helped a sabertooth fox who fell in the ocean when their glider broke. I think I was a really good octo, but I had to wake up to go to school before I could help anybody else.
There wasn't any fighting class because grownups wanted to SLEEP IN.
It was a really good Halloween.
Number-dad asked if I was a good octo and Sahara and Simoun said I was. It made me really happy. I said they were good sabertooth seals, because they were. They didn't eat any of the pirates or my friend the stick fishie. I asked Dragon-mom if she was really a song and she said she was and it was really INTERESTING to be where people were playing her and feeling how they played her, but she likes being a person more. I think that would be really weird. Fairy-mom was a really good racecar so she won a silver trophy and she brought it to the Awake World! I think it's made out of real silver and it says she's the second-fastest Halloween car of this year. We all said she won Halloween, but she gave us all hugs and said we're all the best Halloween dreamers.
Max didn't think she was the best Halloween dreamer, because when she was being a big blue star, a giant space cat tried to EAT her. We all laughed and laughed because she wants to eat a big blue star, but she was really cross. She said all the other things in outer space were nice and she liked shining on them, though, especially the moon that went away and came back. That made Rose-auncle happy.
I'm glad everybody else had a really good Halloween too.
At school, Bina told everybody the story of how the hungry tree tried to eat them, but they were too smart and realized the chicken was a TRICK and they turned their cape into a glider and flew away. Gobi tried teasing them about not using LOGarithms to escape, but they tackled her and tickled her until she squacked, because that's a terrible pun. Lots of kids had good stories about playing at their Halloween parties or having Halloween dreams, and being monsters or fighting monsters or being mountains with caves that people could hide in and dancing with Super Monkey at Dragon-mayor's party and being a robot that Aimée fixed. I liked what I did, but I wish I could do all the other things too. Maybe next Halloween I'll be something like a song so I can be in all different places.
I dreamed I was a little octo again, but I was more me. I looked around for holes and I found some SCIENCE HOLES that people built with cameras to see what the octos who live there do. Octos don't do embarrassing things like picking their noses or washing their bums, so I didn't mind. It was a nice hole. I think it was made out of a juice bottle. Then 2 really BIG octos came and poked their tentacles in. I got really scared, because sometimes octos EAT each other, and showed them my blue rings, but then it was OK because it was Yachi-auncle and Psi-8-auncle. We talked about important octo things like changing colors and going to ocean school and finding the best holes and mimicking other creatures. It was really interesting. I like being a cat, but maybe being an octo would be good too. Then some kids came to play at the beach by my science hole, so we went to play with them. One had rainbow hair and one had a peg leg, but I think it was the other leg, and one had big blond hair. They all squacked when they got surprise hugs from octo arms. It was really funny.
We went to visit Spin and Jeanne and Blond Dmitry and talk about how fun Halloween was. They said they had a really good time being pirates, and pillaged lots of stuff. They didn't know how to bring the stuff they pillaged in the Dreamlands into the Awake World, but they had lots of sweets from the party to share with us. Jeanne said her leg was still sore from being squinched up to fit a peg leg, but I think that was a fib so that my Dmitri would make biscuits on her leg because it was FLIRTING. I hid in Spin's lap so I didn't have to look, but really it wasn't yucky. It's OK for friends to cuddle, especially if they have skull cookies to share. We made plans for a big sleepover to teach lots of kids about magic dreaming, but we have to get all our PARENTS to say it's OK and get organized. Everything is lots harder when grownups get involved.
We had spicy chicken pies for dinner. They were really yummy and I don't think they're hard to make. Maybe I'll make them next time I get to cook.
All the costumes and parties and dreams were really exciting, but it's nice to sit on the porch at Hebichi's house and drink lemonade and look at clouds. We talked about costumes for next Halloween, but we have a WHOLE YEAR to think about them. Maybe we'll be clouds and go all over to see everybody's adventures. Maybe we'll be exciting stories that all different people tell. Then the clouds got black and scary and started RAINING on us so we had to run inside so our lemonade didn't get watery. We read Toka books about funny space creatures until Clover came to get me for dinner. She had to come because she brought my RAINCOAT. That was really nice of her.
When we got home, Rei and Cara were sitting on my porch swing, but when they saw us they RAN AWAY. I was really worried, but Clover said, "In Halloween dream, they did stuff they not do awake, so they embarrassed. It OK, they done with those feelings soon." I hope they didn't hurt anybody when they were being monsters. That would be really bad!
It's still raining. It's been raining since Thursday. Sahara and Simoun and I tried sleeping in the treehouse with a TARP over us, but the wind blew it around too much and we got wet and had to go inside. We're going to try again another night with a frame to make it like a TENT, but tonight we're having a sleepover with a bunch of kids to help them learn magic dreaming. Maybe we can get some of the treasure Spin and everybody pirated into the Awake World too. I should stop writing because it's almost time for dinner and after that everybody's going to come over and we're going to watch a show and eat popcorn.
I'm writing this tomorrow again.
It was a nice sleepover party, but it was weird because it was kids we don't usually have over and not the ones we do. There were kids from my level at school and Simoun and Sahara's level and Dmitri's level and Humboldt's level and Rei's level. I think we had 18 kids plus 5 kittens and Rei and Cara, which is a whole bunch of people. Dragon-mom made us a big pot of Japan-style curry, which is different than India-style curry but still yummy, and we ate in a big circle in the living room and helped clean up and watched the show that Max and Annabelle like. It's pretty old but it has girls who transform into SUPERHEROES and they're from the Moon in the future and it's a little bit scary but hardly anybody gets hurt and it has magic kitties. It's called MOON PRINCESS SERENITY. Everybody liked it, and everybody liked Annabelle and Max even though they're younger. They sat with Bina and their cape because they thought the cape was really cool, and gave them lots of hugs when it was time for 6-year-olds to go to bed. It took a long time because everybody wanted hugs and Annabelle had to say goodnight to everybody one at a time, but then they were going to bed and the older kids could eat popcorn and watch a show called GARDEN OF ANIMALS. It's about all different animals that live together and it's funny and nice and nobody is mean. It's a good show to watch before trying to dream about visiting a ZOO.
We turned the lights almost off and Humbold and Rei started telling people how to make their minds empty and dream-shaped and get their personal energy flowing really smooth and stuff like that. Dmitri and Cara helped a little bit, but Rei and Humboldt did a good job teaching. Everybody got really sleepy and some people did snuggles. I got squished between Bina and Gobi and it we had a cape over us and I fell right asleep because I'm a CAT.
I didn't know it, but teaching people how to go to the Dreamlands is like being a SHEEPCAT. They try to go all over and fall off things and look for terrible ideas to eat and sit down and won't move. I couldn't do it by myself. Even with my big brothers and big sisters and cousins helping it was really hard. Clover was taking some people to the Dreamlands too, so she helped us, but then she said something to Cara and Rei and they got really embarrassed and Clover laughed and ran away with her friends. I hope it wasn't a FLIRT but I bet it was. The hardest part was when Gobi wanted to dream about being a cat and ran away to find some mice to hunt and we couldn't find her for a long time. It was only a little bit scary, because if she got lost we could get my parents to find her and bring her home, but we didn't want to have to get grownup help.
It took a long time and we all got really TIRED, but we got everybody to a train station in the Dreamlands and nobody got lost or hurt and everybody dreamed about being like their awake selves. Even Bina's cape was OK. We sang the Good Work Everybody song until the train came to take us to my zoo, and felt really PROUD.
Everybody liked my zoo a lot. It made me really happy. I showed them all the dinos and all the regular animals and the food court and the petting zoo and a masquillion nice people who work at the zoo. Zsuzsy was there and the dreamers in Teenagers I thought she was really pretty but they know not to play flirts with people who are WORKING so I didn't have to bite them. Then Hebichi and Toka and Faun and Jeanne all came and hugged all the new dreamers and we went to the food court and had a PARTY. It was really nice. After the party we tried to go to the city, but the train took us back to the Awake World so we had to have waffle breakfast instead. Some kids had to run to early class, but I stayed with the ones who didn't and had extra waffles with more blueberry syrup. Max wanted to put blueberry spots on everybody and eat them but it was time for school.
It was a really good magic dreaming class!
We're doing a RESEARCH PROJECT at school, so I'm busy reading about how people used to get food and what kind of trouble it made and writing down notes, so I haven't had time to write in the journal. I think that's OK as long as I don't forget.
This week it rained and got colder and windier until now it's FREEZING rain. Ultra-modern people don't get cold just from that and little bits of ice don't hurt them so they still go outside, but cats stay INSIDE except when we have to put on coats and sweaters and run really fast to a different place.
Max SHRIEKED when she found out she grew too much for her favorite sweater from last year, but Humboldt sneaked to the Gram House and made a new sweater that's just the same only bigger and then sneaked back to switch them. He said he did SHRINKING MAGIC on Max to make it fit and got her to try it on and she shrieked some more because she doesn't want to be littler, but she figured it out right away because she's smart. Humboldt is a really good big brother.
Faun and Spin and I tried camping in the treehouse with a tarp for a tent and lots of warm blankets, but in the middle of the night the wind turned around and came in the tent and it was TOO COLD for me. I felt bad because it was my fault we had to go inside, but Spin and Faun were really nice and snuggled with me under the bottom shelf in the living room. I want to be a grownup so I can get the medicine to be really tough like an ultra-modern person and not ruin people's fun.
Jeanne visited 3 times this week and now she calls my Dmitri DD and I think it's a FLIRTING NAME. I don't want Dmitri to be a teenager. He says he won't because he's only as grownup as a modern kid who's 8, but I'm worried.
That sounds like it's a bad week, but I had lots of fun too. It was regular fun, like fiddling and bowling and volleyball. Fairy-mom and I made mashed sweet potato casserole and it was really yummy. Number-dad said it made him ORANGER.
We finished the research project, but I like writing in the journal every week. Now I have more time before bed to play Snapagator and other fun card games with everbody.
This week it was still windy but not as rainy, so going outside was a little bit nicer. I stayed inside a lot anyway because it's cozy and full of nice people, but sometimes I went out to be by myself and think.
I found out another secret, like when I knew VV-gram was having a baby and couldn't tell anybody. Big Sam was sad so I went to sit on his lap and purr for him, and I found out he's sad because his parents are thinking about moving to MARS. They were retired and old and getting ready for their lives to be all done, which means DYING, but then they got the medicine to be ultra-modern people and live as long as songcats, so it's like they got whole new lives and now they want to do something DIFFERENT. Going to Mars sounds really cool and exciting and I bet Simoun and Sahara will try to sneak onto the spaceship, but it would be really sad to not see the Bear-grams anymore, and lots sadder if they're your PARENTS. I sang the Your Parents Will Always Love You No Matter Where You Are song for Big Sam, but I don't know if it helped. Maybe this is something we just have to worry about until it's done.
All of us kittens dreamed about trying to get to Bruno and Beezer's house to get out of the STORM, but there was too much wind and it tried to blow everybody away. Lots of kittens caught trees or each other and were okay, but I caught Sahara and nobody caught me. The wind carried us away and it was really scary. It carried us over the cold grey ocean and tried to drop us in but we used magic singing to make it keep blowing until we got to land again. It was a city that looked like all the tall buildings were on fire but really it was giant chimneys with sunshine making the smoke REALLY BRIGHT and apartments all around the chimneys to stay warm, and the people there were bunnies as big as us and they rode on giant DANDELION FLUFFS and they had little doggies to carry with them and HUGE PIGGIES as big as bisons to pull wagons. They made parts for the giant factory underground that had all the chimneys, but we never found out what the factory made. They were being oppressed by really mean birds that tried to steal all their stuff and eat their doggies and piggies. Sahara is a really good hunter, so she fought those birds until they went away and I helped. Then the boss bird came and we both had to fight it and it tried to turn us into SILVER with magic squawking but we stopped it with magic singing and then Sahara beat it up. It was a really mean person but it wasn't a monster so we didn't kill it. We made it promise to stop being mean and make all the other birds behave too. If they don't, then Sahara will COME BACK! It was a really good dream and I liked the bunnies and doggies and piggies and their warm apartments around the chimneys. Riding all the way back over the ocean and the grab monsters on just a dandelion fluff was pretty scary, though, and I was really glad to get back to Dragon-mayor's city. Sahara pretended she wasn't scared, but I think she was.
We did extra practicing for volleyball because Ilona-teacher thought people were staying inside and not exercising. It made my legs floppy but it was really fun.
Next week is Thanksgiving. We're already thinking about what kind of feasting food to make. I might make some pies.
I made three big pumpkin pies. It was pretty easy because I used STORE-BOUGHT crusts. I was afraid that made it not count, but Zora said making good pie crusts is really ADVANCED so it's okay. The pumpkin filling is really yummy. We all helped make mashed potatoes because there was a lot of mashing. Max thought it was really fun and sang the Mashing Song and tried to mash every vegetable we had because she's funny. Flower-gram cooked whole turkeys and big pans of STUFFING and the Cousin House brought lots of jello and more pies and the Bear-grams brought lots of yummy veggies and borscht, which is beet soup, and cheese crunchies and Faun and Pixie's family brought roasted duck and fancy cheese and crackers to eat while we were cooking and the pocket foxies brought sizzling food on sticks and everybody brought lots more food and then Big Sam's SIBLINGS and their families came with even more food and the Gram House smelled super yummy and everybody's tummies got really loud and then we ATE. I liked the borscht, because it's MAGENTA so it's like eating your colors but you can put in lots of SOUR CREAM. I liked the tomato yogurt sausage pumpkin and the roasted duck legs and the stuff with pine nuts and bacon and the gravy on mashed potatoes and everything.
After we ate we were too ROUND to do anything so we listened to some music and talked about all different stuff. The Bear-grams told everybody about their idea to move to Mars and everybody thought that was really cool and exciting and Sahara and Simoun wanted to go too, but all their kids and grandkids were really sad about not seeing them any more, just like I thought. They weren't as sad as I thought, because if the Bear-grams didn't get a new life, they would be DYING pretty soon, and everybody said being on Mars is better than being dead. They were right. I'll still be sad when I don't have so many big bear laps to snuggle in, but maybe I can write them lots of letters.>
When our tummies were done with dinner, we ate DESSERT. Everybody liked my pies so I was happy. VV-gram ate almost a whole one by herself. She said it was to help the new kitten grow a big special tummy for sweets, but I think it was because she likes spicy pumpkin. The red bean sesame balls that Devi-auncle made were the best but it was all really yummy and we got round again. The Bear-grams and my big sisters talked a lot about Mars and I sat by them and listened while Nico brushed me. Mars is really cool. Maybe I'll go there someday.
I made a nest out of quilts and pillows in the corner and I'm writing really sneaky while all the grownups talk about grownup stuff. Lots of kittens and pocket foxies are asleep because that's what our bodies want to do after we eat a whole bunch and I'm going to be asleep REALLY SOON.
After eating and eating and eating, I dreamed about eating. A bunch of us went to Bruno and Beezer's house in the forest to help them carry food to their big party at somebody's barn. Sahara and I looked in the shed to check on the giant dandelion fluff that carried us back from the city of chimneys after she defeated the big mean bird, but Posey and Parker and their group of sheepies ATE it! I got really mad because I wanted to try flying on it again and cussed and roared at the sheepies, and they got really sorry and cried because they didn't know it wasn't for eating, and then I felt bad for being mean to them and cried too. Sahara had to get Pounce-auncle to come and make us all take deep breaths. I was really sad, but I helped Bruno carry a big pot of chili bean stew made with VENISON. Smelling that made me feel better. Then we got to the big barn where all the people from houses in the forest were together. There was bunches of really yummy food and nice people and it was loud but cozy. Lots of people from the zoo were there, like Arden-doctor and her family, because they live in the forest or beside it. All the people from Tansy's Sheep Place were there too, and Octavio-auncle. It was really nice. I still felt bad about being mean to the sheepies, so I gave them my share of cornbread. They said I didn't have to, but they ate the cornbread anyway because it was so yummy. It was full of honey and rosemary. I ate a lot of yummy food so when I woke up, I was still full. I'm going to try to grow a lot.
All my pies got eaten, but I made some more little ones to give to Hebichi and Spin and people who wanted to swap food. I got a pecan pie from Spin and it was really yummy. He made it with his mom. Hebichi gave me some red bean buns and sesame cakes. They were storebought but really yummy. I was a little proud because I made the pumpkin pies almost by myself. Blond Dmitry didn't have little things to trade, but he shared his spicy beef stew with me at lunch and it was really yummy. Jean gave my Dmitri little sausage pies that smelled really good. I hope that wasn't flirting.
Bob-teacher said we did really good on the research project. He gave us some ideas on how to do better research. We were all really proud.
Sahara and Simoun gave me a ride on their flying boat. I had to work the ray projectors to make it go, so it was harder than doing magic singing on the dandelion fluff, but flying is really fun. We practiced dropping things on a target circle. It's really hard!
