It's DECEMBER! It really feels like winter because it snowed yesterday and today it's really SUNNY so the snow looks really white except where SOMEBODY used it to make snowballs to throw at his little brothers and sisters.
It isn't windy here but it's windy at Tansy's Sheep Place, and Parker almost got blown away by the wind because she ate our giant dandelion fluff and it made her really LIGHT. Sahara said it served her right, and I thought so too, but I don't think it's good to want scary things to happen to your friends even if they did something to make you mad. Maybe I'm not a really nice kitten. I wrote a letter to Parker saying I'm glad she didn't get hurt because I am, but I couldn't say I'm sorry she got blown into a tree.
Spin invited Hebichi and Faun and me to a big sleepover with kids from his school but Hebichi couldn't go because that was FAMILY NIGHT. Jeanne invited my Dmitri even though he's older and Blond Dmitry invited Sahara and Simoun and someone I don't know invited Humboldt, so all 5 of us went and there were 23 kids, counting us, and 4 doggies, counting Sunny, and 2 kitties, not counting us, camping out in the fancy treehouse in the park on the other side of Spin's house. It has 4 different parts in 3 trees that are right together and rope bridges and ladders to get around and it was full of blankets and plush animals and kids and SNUGGLES. Everybody wanted to be friends with us because we're cats and not ultra-modern kids, and they wanted to keep us warm because they're nice. We had some shows to watch and lots of snacks and juice and some kids' houses were right by the park so we could yell for help if we needed anything but we didn't except some people had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It was a really fun sleepover and I met lots of new kids and doggies and kitties who are all really cool. But Spin is the coolest and has the coolest rainbow hair. Maybe Cross, the kitty who has big fluffy fur with spots and stripes, is second coolest.
We liked all those kids, so our whole family went to that neighborhood's game night and played Gliese and Castles and Spinch Factory and Robot Maze and lots of fun games. Fairy-mom is really good at games! I'm not that good at games but I'm pretty good for 9. I won Robot Maze against Hebichi and Spin and Jean and Humboldt and Jean's mom. I was really proud but then Dmitri tickled me.
It snowed more so the snow came up to my TUMMY some places! It was really fun to play in, but it was really nice to go back inside when I got cold and cuddle by Number-dad's fluffy tummy. It snowed a lot in the Dreamlands too. so we did lots of snow playing. We built snow castles and had big snowball fights and sledded down hills and some people with only 2 feet on the ground learned to SKI. Bruno and Beezer's puppies were there because it isn't solstice yet, and they played with us a lot, but I think they flirted with teenagers a lot too. I got BURIED when a tunnel I was digging caved in, but I figured out which way was up and started digging and then Ash threw a bunch of snow in the air so I wasn't buried. Ash was my hero.
One time I went to the clearing where Number-dad and Shoe-auncle's cottage is, and Cross and Pumpkin, that's the 2 kitties I met at the big sleepover last week, were singing the Let Me In song. The door for little animals only opens if you have the right COLLAR, so they couldn't get in. They have fluffy fur so they weren't cold but they wanted to go in and get treats. They were a little bit scared of me but then they remembered they know me and I let them in and gave them some salmon jerky and petted them. They were good kitties and used the litter box and didn't scratch anything, so I gave them the special collars to go in and out and wrote that I did that on the whiteboard. Then Jam came to visit and Cross and Pumpkin got worried again because he's a checkerboard cat and he's lots bigger than them, but not as big as me. He's really nice and he smells pretty, so they decided to be friends with him. Then I got little like a housecat and we played sneaking and pouncing and tussling until Clover snuck in and scared everybody. She was standing up so we made her sit down and unzip her coat and we climbed on her legs and purred and sang the Pet Us Lots More song. I'm glad we have new cat friends. Maybe we can see them at Cat Day.
It's December so we have to think about presents. I have lots of ideas, because I have lots of people to buy presents for. I'm not going to write the ideas down here because somebody might FIND them.
When I was in fiddling class, I ACCIDENTALLY made a really weird noise with my fiddle and everybody laughed, even Pion-teacher, and I got really embarrassed and ran outside to cry. Hebichi caught me and hugged me, but I still felt really bad for making a yucky noise and ruining class and being no good. I don't like when my feelings get too big and messy. I want to be grown up already. Then my feelings will BEHAVE.
Zora made a SNOW GOLEM. It looked like a squid and wiggled around in the snow like a snake and it was really cool. But then it went BERSERK and tried to eat me and I had to sing the Bad Magic Go Away song and bite it into pieces. I didn't get hurt at all, but Zora got in big trouble with her mom. Now magic is on time out for her for a WHOLE WEEK. I feel bad for her, but if the golem tried to eat Max or Annabelle, it might have hurt them, so it really wasn't safe.
That was on Monday, so on Wednesday I asked VV-teacher about making golems with magic singing instead of building a heart. She said that's ADVANCED, but when we get good enough she'll teach us because it's safer. If the golem goes berserk, you can stop singing and then it will fall apart and not hurt anybody. Morgan said that's because magic singing is better than other magic, but I don't think that's right. All different kinds of magic are good for different stuff.
When I went back to the cottage in the Dreamlands, it was a MESS. Cross and Pumpkin figured out they could let other cats in by going in with them, but not all of those other cats were good about using the litterbox and scratching only on the posts with carpet. I had to get Number-dad to talk to them, because he's really good at talking to cats that aren't people. That's why he's not as good at talking to people even though he's really SMART. I cleaned up all the mess while he did that, because it was my fault for giving Pumpkin and Cross special collars. Number-dad was really nice and sang the Good Job Cleaning Up song to me and didn't say I did anything wrong, but I still felt bad.
Our family went to Winter Cat Day in the Spiky Mountains, where a cat named Bug Squisher is in charge. Her name doesn't sound very scary until you see the shell that's as big as Elephant Cat of a bug that she killed all by herself! We went there because that's where 3 Orange Socks went, and VV-gram wanted to go with him. Even if they aren't married, I think they like each other a whole bunch and that makes me really happy for the new kitten.
Bug Squisher found some caves in a nice valley up in the mountains with a RIVER coming out of them and going into a lake. The lake was frozen solid because it was REALLY COLD but inside the caves was warm with fires and furry blankets and friends. We went skating on the ice, which is like rollerskating only different, and learned to do twirls and skate backwards. On a different part of the lake, some cats cut holes in the ice and went fishing. They caught some big yummy fish, but not enough for all the cats who came. Dragon-mom says it's an excuse to sit in a tent with a little fire and drink grownup juice and talk all day. I think ice skating is more fun. It was a really good Cat Day even though it was lots smaller than the ones we usually go to. It's far away so I didn't see Cross and Pumpkin, but there were lots of other kitties I made friends with and played with. Annabelle learned the names of every cat right away, so Bug Squisher said she better be careful or Annabelle would take over. It was funny, but I think Annabelle would be a good leader.
Hebichi and Spin and Faun and everybody from the Awake World could only come for Visitor Day. They got to talk to the cats that were there early and build a snow castle and listen to some songs that aren't secret and eat food that the Snowmobile Cats brought and it was really fun, but they couldn't come for Cat Day because they aren't cats. Maybe someday if I get married to somebody who isn't a cat, they can be a Cat-in-Law like Dragon-mom and come to Cat Day. Dmitri said if I talk about getting married with Spin then I can't tease him about being friends with Jeanne, so I smushed snow in his face but then he threw me in a HUGE SNOW DRIFT and I was upside down at the bottom of a HOLE.
Sometimes something really exciting happens at Cat Day, like dinosaurs or snow monsters or earthquakes, but nothing happened this time. Some snow rolled down the mountain but it wasn't a real avalanche. It was a quiet Cat Day except it was really loud from all the cats singing and arguing and chasing kittens out of trouble. We all really liked it. I think VV-gram liked it the most because lots of other grownup cats were really nice to her for having 3 Orange Socks's kitten. We all really liked Bug Squisher too, because she's a nice leader and makes sure all her cats get taken care of.
I got lots of presents for people! I thought about hiding them in my closet, but somebody who pokes his NOSE everywhere might find them, so I made them into a big pile and slept on them and hid them in my ZOO. Even if somebody guesses I did that, or reads my journal, they can't get to them. I felt really SNEAKY.
Dragon-mom bought a masquillion bottles of FANCY SPRINKLES. They look like tiny jewels and they're every shiny color and maybe some new colors we hadn't thought of. We're going to make sparkly cookies for EVERYBODY because that's a nice winter thing to do. I'm going to make fiddle cookies for Pion-teacher and Mars cookies for the Bear-grams and robot cookies for the pocket foxies and RAINBOW cookies for Spin.
This was a good week for volleyball even though I got bonked in the nose and got a nosebleed 3 times. It really worries all the ultra-modern kids, because they're so tough they never get nosebleeds, but it isn't a big deal. It's just messy. We won all of those games, so I don't mind. It was an OK week for bowling, but I got more points this week than last week if you add them all up. Someday I'll be really good at bowling. I wonder if there's MAGIC BOWLING.
I read today is a special day for CALICO CATS. Nobody in my little family is calico or tortiseshell, but Tansy-gram and Cally-auncle are, and Lucille and Betty and Zagreus, those are cats I met at Cat Days. I wrote letters to them all saying Happy Calico Cat Day and got some fancy stickers of calico cats and stars and cupcakes to make them festive. Simoun helped and she put on stickers of rainbows and dolphins and puppies. Then we thought about what month it is and put stickers of decorated trees and wreaths and mistletoes on all the letters and put them out for the mail robot. Maybe it's kind of silly because I think someday just MADE UP Calico Cat Day but that's OK. We looked to see if there were special days for other cats, and July 31 is for little black and white cats, and November 14 is for little orange cats. We didn't find a day for ticked cats or tuxedo cats, so maybe we have to make up our own. I don't think it should be our birthdays, though.
I know Humboldt tried peeking in everybody's closets, so I was going to be really SNEAKY and pretend to leave but then hide in my closet and pounce on him, but Sahara did it FIRST. I saw him sneaking by the closets, so I snuck behind him and looked, and he BAMBOOZLED Sahara's door and snuck in, and she jumped on him from the top shelf so all his oofs came out. We were going to bite his ears and tell him never to do that again, but Fairy-mom heard and came to see and Humboldt got in a lot of trouble. He's grounded from doing fun things on his own for a WHOLE WEEK. Fairy-mom was really mad!
Humboldt was really sad, so even though he misbehaved, I sat by him on the porch swing and sang the You're My Brother song. Sahara and Simoun came out and helped, and he felt better. I think Dmitri was pretty mad at him. I wish everybody could make good choices all the time so nobody has to get in trouble.
Tomorrow is SOLSTICE, so this is the last day of school for this year. We had a little party at school with cupcakes and hugs and Zeb-teacher got icing all over his face and Bob-teacher had to lick it off and everybody was really happy. Now Zeb-teacher and Bob-teacher and Momo-teacher can be AUNCLES for the whole rest of the year and get extra hugs.
It's SOLSTICE! That's when the sun is all the way to the southern edge of the sky and people in the North Hemisphere get the shortest days and the longest night. It's a special day because now the days will get longer until it's SUMMER, so lots of people like having parties and giving presents today. Some people have birthdays today too, like Jean and Blond Dmitry. It's a special day for MAGIC too, so Number-dad and Dragon-mom and Flower-gram and VV-gram and Nessie-auncle and Zora and all the wizards we know were busy all day doing magic to protect our city. There was only Fairy-mom and Rose-auncle and Lilja-auncle to take care of all 7 kittens, so we tried really hard to be good. Max almost went to Shriek City, but we reminded her we were being good and she didn't. We sang the Good Job Max song because we were so proud of her.
We got all fancy with jewelry and Humboldt and Max had dark green dresses that were quilted in shapes like winter trees with rainbow lights and Sahara and Simoun and Dmitri had tiaras that lit up and Annabelle and I had tinsel for our tails, and then we went to the Solstice party at the neighborhood center. It had lots of SNOWFLAKES and wintery decorations so I wanted to snuggle with people to stay warm. We had some mistletoe in different places to make people give each other kisses and music for dancing and lots of snacks and lots of nice people and it was really fun. I got lots of kisses. In the afternoon, we went to some other neighborhoods' parties and said nihao to lots of friends from school and their families and tried their snacks and gave them little presents and got more mistletoe kisses. The last one we went to was in Spin's neighborhood and it was really nice. Their party was warm and had decorated trees and toasty juice and a fireplace and bunches of mistletoe so everybody had to do bunches of kisses. Everybody said it was the right party for me, and when they said that, I KISSED them! Jean kissed my Dmitri a lot and called him DD, but it was OK. Spin had a really nice dress that was dark red and velvet and had a vest with hollies and poinsettias all over it and he had a necklace that was shiny balls and stars like tree decorations and a wreath with pine cones. He looked really pretty and cool and really warm and his dress was nice to hug. Then somebody threw mistletoe on his wreath and I had to kiss him. That's how mistletoe works. Then everybody kissed him because he's so pretty and nice and had mistletoe. We danced and toasted marshmallows and I gave him the present I got for him and he gave me a present too. It's big and crunkly and not too heavy and I don't know what it is!
For supper we went back to our neighborhood center and helped set tables and chairs so everybody could have a big FEAST together. Lots of people brought all different kinds of food and there wasn't any food to take home because we were HUNGRY. I liked the raspberry sauce duck and the chili bean stew with eggplant and the fried quesadillas and the corn pudding and the pork bao and the applesauce ham and the peach crumble and everything. I got really round but I could sit down and let people come to my corner to kiss me, and I got really happy.
Fairy-mom said I could stay up until Dragon-mom and Number-dad came home, so when we went home Max and Annabelle went to bed and the rest of us played cards and drank eggnogs until Number-dad came back and had mistletoe all over his hat so we had to kiss him until he fell over and his hat came off! Then he was really tired and so was Dragon-mom so everybody went to bed. Now I'm in my closet writing but I'm done so I'm going to SLEEP.

This was a good day for singing. We went to hear the Elephant Street Choir sing lots of holiday songs, and they were really GOOD because they practice together every week. They sang so beautiful I had to sing too, but I stayed really QUIET so I didn't mess them up. I was between Simoun and Dmitri so I could see they had to sing too, and maybe all of us kittens did. That was OK, because after the choir sang a bunch of songs, it was time for EVERYBODY to sing! It wasn't as good because it was bunches of people who don't practice together, but singing with everybody was really FUN. We sang a bunch of solstice songs and some winter songs and some CHRISTMAS songs, but not any scary ones. I forgot that people used to pretend like Santa Claus was a person or a spirit. It made the songs really funny.
Humbold and Simoun and I made chili bean hamburger pies for everybody for lunch. They were kind of messy but really warm and yummy so I think we did a good job.
In the afternoon, Number-dad got all fancy in a TUXEDO because he had to give people MANGA AWARDS. Dragon-mom and Fairy-mom got really fancy too, because they were going with him. The rest of us couldn't go because it was too grownup, so we went to the Gram House to watch the show. We had dinner with them and everybody from the Cousin House and Secret because her mom got all fancy to go to the awards too. The seared beef and shallots and potatoes and veggie dumplings and everything was really yummy because Nessie-auncle is a good cook. Zora is still grounded until tomorrow but Flower-gram said this is an important family thing, so she got to come and have kittens sit on her, but she was grouchy Ai couldn't come sit on her.
We all watched the 74th Buzzbee Manga Artist Awards together and it was really cool. Lots of really important manga people were there, and new people who might get the award, and more people who couldn't visit were there on BIG SCREENS. Tak-auncle was on the screen, and we got a little bit sad because we wished he could visit, but he had to stay with his mom because she's really old and sick. Number-dad looked REALLY COOL and said lots of funny stuff, and then he got some envelopes and there was exciting music and he read the cards saying who got the awards, and said really nice stuff about them. I noticed VV-gram and Flower-gram were CRYING, so I ran around behind everybody to see what was wrong, but it was HAPPY crying. Number-dad's moms remembered when he was a little kitten who drew with crayons like Max and Annabelle, and when he first drew manga for other people to read, and now he's so grownup and famous for manga that when he tells people their manga is good, they get really PROUD and cry really happy. I hope I'm that cool when I grow up. I didn't know all the people who got awards, because lots of them draw grown-up manga, but Lam, Betsy won the award for manga for teenagers. She made DRIFTING IN THE GREEN DREAM, which is Dmitri's favorite manga in the whole world, and Number-dad said that, so she waved to us and said "Thanks for reading, Dmitri!" and Dmitri fell right over on Secret! He was really happy! He sent a message to Number-dad to tell Lam-artist thanks for making such good manga and later Number-dad said he did.
When the awards were done, there was a big party for the people there but watching a party isn't very much fun so after we saw all the fancy clothes and said how pretty our moms are, we had a sleepover with root beer floats and sleeping bags and gram-snuggles. Secret wanted to sleep between Max and Annabelle but she wanted to sleep ON TOP of all the cats, so we made a big snuggly pile for her. I got kind of squished, but it was really nice because I like my family.
I dreamed I went to my zoo and wrapped presents, but it made my hands sore so I measured all the presents and went to a fancy store in town and got pretty BOXES with winter decoration to put all the presents in and crunkly tissue paper to pad them. When I got back to the zoo my hands could wrap some more presents, so I did, because I want my hands to get stronger, but then I put the rest of the presents in the boxes and took them back to the Awake World. All the rest of the paper and boxes went to the zoo gift store, so they can wrap things people buy for presents. The bugs on the mountain buzzed at me a lot, so I gave them Solstice cookies and they let me pass. Then I put all the boxes under the tree when nobody was looking in the middle of the night, and felt really SNEAKY.
Yesterday I was helping Humboldt make oatmeal and little sausages for breakfast for everybody, because our parents were worn out from having a grownup party until really late, and the house said there were big animals outside. Simoun ran to look and it was MOOSIES and PENGIES! Boogie and Disco Moose and Chibi-Moosa were all there, and some moosies we didn't know, and expedition pengies Thomas and Julia, and they were all on their way to the SNOWY HOOF Convention. It used to be the Moose Convention, but then yakkies and reindeeries and everybody could go too. They brought us hugs from the spiders who were going to the Spider Convention, because they had to take a different train and didn't come by Starfall. Everybody was glad to see them, especially Udo. He came zooming in his pickup truck because SOMEBODY sent him a secret message about moosies. It was really cute. We talked about all the stuff that happened at the Northern Shores and other moose places, and all the stuff that happened here, and I got to have Spin and Blond Dmitry and Jeanne say nihao to them and they thought that was REALLY COOL and now they want to come to the Northern Shores next year. I hope they can.
It was a really nice day and we didn't do very much except sometimes people snuck away to finish wrapping presents or put them under the tree or KISS DMITRI. Now all the moosies think Jeanne is Dmitri's GIRLFRIEND even though they're different years! I hid under Spin so I didn't have to see and then everybody laughed at me. All the rest of the day was really nice, though. We had vegetable Chinese food from Lilja's restaurant and sushi from a new restaurant for the pengies. It was really good sushi so we're going to go there again someday.
It was too WARM inside for the mooses and penguins to sleep so they went to sleep outside on the porch and kittens and kids went to sleep with them. Humboldt is still GROUNDED but I got to snuggle with Spin in between Harold and Glorinda and it was really warm.
We had a dream adventure in the ICE SKATING RINK in Dragon-mayor's city. Everybody had fun skating until Boogie stole Spin's RAINBOW HAIR and tried to run away with it and we had to chase her across the street and through the park and up the stairs at the library to get it back. Spin tried to steal her antlers but it didn't work, so he made her give him a cinnamon roll to apologize. It was pretty silly. I really like the moosies and the pengies. Number-dad likes the moosies EXTRA because they were his friends from when he was a kitten like me, but Udo has been friends with moosies since he was even younger than Max.
Today we had PRESENTS from the tree. A long time ago our family did presents on the 25th because Flower-gram and VV-gram grew up doing that, but now we do it on the 24th so that we can go on VACATION on the 25th. We didn't expect moosies and pengies, but we got our tree ready for them in a HURRY because we love them so much. We gave the moosies sweaters and leg warmers in their favorite colors, but penguins aren't the right shape for that, so we gave Thomas and Julia wooly hats with POMPOMS and cool shoes that Zora and Big Sam made for them. They thought the shoes were weird because they never wore shoes before, but maybe it will help their feet not get so sore. Boogie and Disco Moose are the FUNNIEST moosies, so we gave Boogie fake EYEGLASSES with a big nose and mustache, and Disco Moose got some little sparkly balls to hang from his antlers like earrings. I guess they're ANTLERINGS. All the moosies wanted tinsel for their antlers too. It was really cute.
Everybody got lots of really good presents. All of our presents are from SANTA CLAUS because that's a word for everybody who gives presents to people they love around the December Solstice, but I remembered which one was from Spin, and it was a warm purple SWEATER with white curlicues because that's the Purpleberry Ice cream colors! I put it on and it made me feel like Spin was hugging me. It was really funny because I gave Spin a plush dino that looked like it was DANCING, and he plays with Raptor Dance Party. I got a new bow for my fiddle because my old bow is pretty worn out, and fancy rosin for it, and a strap with a magic lock that's just the right size for my journal. I think that means somebody knows I'm keeping a journal, but the present didn't SMELL like anybody! But if they gave me a lock, that means they want to help keep it secret. I got lots more presents too. I know one cool hat with a big green feather was from Hebichi, and maybe the other cool hat with a snake for a band was from Faun. All kittens and Rei and Nico got magic WHISTLES that I think are from Zora. If we blow on them, our parents will hear it, because they're for EMERGENCIES. Max got pajamas that make her look like a MOOSE so she put them on and ran around yelling moose noises until Boogie sat on her. I gave lots of people good presents but the best one was a big valentine-shaped fuzzy brown and white pillow that gets warm and purrs, for VV-gram's tummy where the new kitten is. The second was a blowgun with orange darts for Hebichi, so they can look like they're hunting by blowing FIRE. I thought about writing all the presents I gave peoplo but even though this journal is secret and has a magic lock on it, it was too much like BRAGGING. Maybe it's OK to say everybody liked the paper crunkles from my packages, because that wasn't the present. Max and Annabelle swatted them and then Sahara pounced on one and Fairy-mom tried to steal it from her and everybody swatted them all over and VV-gram tried to be really grownup and cool but her tail was twitching and then she POUNCED on Fairy-mom and took away the paper and curled up with it on her pillow looking really PROUD and everybody laughed. I think she's more ferocious than before because if she lived outside, she would have to do lots of extra hunting to get food for the new kitten.
We had a FEAST with pork bao and bean bao and green curry with tofu and pork and cheese and crackers and olives and walnuts and oranges and stuffing and cheesecake and shrimp salad in big shells and a masquillion fancy cookies. We got extra crackers and olives and fruit and nuts for the moosies, and extra shrimp for the pengies, so it was a feast for them too and everybody was really happy and our house was full of LOVE. But now I'm writing and writing in my journal and I'm almost done so I can go to sleep so I can get up EARLY tomorrow to go on vacation.
I'm writing this later because I didn't write any until after vacation.
We got up early and finished our packing checklists and took the moosies and the pengies to the Mole And Wombat People train station with us. We said they could come on vacation with us, but they wanted to go to the convention and they thought it sounded TOO HOT, so we gave the pengies shrimp chips and the moosies spinch crackers and eggplant strips and NO EXTRA NOSES and they got on the train to West Snorbing Junction and we got on the train to Upside Down Mountain. It was all of us from our house and the Gram House and the Cousin House and Secret and her mom and Cara and her mom and the underhiders and Faun and Pixie and their moms. I wanted Hebichi and Spin to come with us, but they had to have FAMILY TIME. The train car got really full.
At Upside Down Mountain, there were FLAMINGOS flying way up in the sunshine above the mountains and they were REALLY BEAUTIFUL. All the sheepies and sheepcats and doggies and everybody from Tansy's Sheep Place thought so too. We gave them a masquillion hugs and played in the snow with them when the flamingos were done. Posey tried to show us how high she could jump from eating my dandelion fluff, but the wind threw her a long ways into a snowdrift and California Golden Bear had to go dig her out. We only got to play for a little while because then we all had to run down to get on the next train, and it was full of HIPPOS. Really it was only 4 hippos, but that's a lot. It was Secret's friend Blossom and her mom and dad and little brother Sprout. Hippos + everybody from the Sheep Place + everybody we started with made the WHOLE TRAIN full!
We got to Sea Monster Cove in the afternoon and grownups and teenagers had to say nihao to the important people in the town and then set up our tents and stuff at the campground, but kittens and kids and lambs got to run to the beach and SWIM. The sun was really warm so the water was really nice and lots of mermaid and human kids from the town and Psi-8-auncle and Yachi-auncle and Oppo-auncle and Molly-gram were all there to play with us and it was really FUN. After we got tired from playing, we went back on land and ate barbecue fish and there was a great big party and I fiddled with my NEW BOW so it sounded really good and everybody danced until we FELL ASLEEP.
We're back home and everybody is resting and getting fancy because tonight is NEW YEAR PARTY. I'm resting by hiding in my closet by myself and writing about vacation.
It was a really good vacation. We played beach games and swam and went for walks on the beach and in the forest and hunted fish and some people hunted deer. Every night we either went to the town and ate lots of yummy food they had, like bananas and all different kinds of fish and corn and pumpkins and spicy peppers and choco, or lots of people came to our camp and we gave them food we brought, like bacon and big shrimps and hamburgers and eggplants and spinch, so everybody got to eat all kinds of food. Number-dad and Flower-gram and VV-gram have been coming here since before there was even a town, so all the grownups are friends with them and they like having parties. The kids in the town are really nice and I like playing with them. Sometimes I played with Max and Annabelle and Secret and then I had to be a monster because I'm bigger, and they bonked me with sticks until I fell down DEAD. Sometimes we all ran and swam with the sheepies, and lots of times we took sunshine naps.
This was the first year I got to go to the casino and play GAMBLES. Fairy-mom took us because she's the most SENSIBLE and gave us each 50 cowries, which is the money they use here, and told the casino people we can only play in the smallest games. That's so even if we're really lucky like Number-dad, we can't win all their money. My big brothers and big sisters and Pixie showed me how all the games work. Faun wanted to come but his moms think he's still too young. We played blackjack, which is a game where you have to get your cards to 21 but if you go over you LOSE, and roulette which is the one with the little ball and the spinner that's always in shows, and craps, which is a game where you have to roll the same thing on dice. All those games were really exciting and made me really happy when I won, but I wanted to play poker because that's the game where you have to OUT THINK people and not just wait for good luck. You have to be 13 to play poker, so I could only watch Rei and Cara and Nico play. Clover and Zora were in a game in a private room so I couldn't watch. Nico is really good because nobody can tell when he's bluffing. We aren't as lucky as Number-dad and Shoe-auncle, but we got some more cowries than we started with and then our brains got tired from being excited all the time and Fairy-mom made us go outside and take a sunshine nap and go down the waterslide a bunch. That was a DIFFERENT KIND of exciting so our brains got better and we could eat dinner without being rowdy.
Maa-uu and Mama-uu and Explorobot got to Sea Monster Cove the day after we did, so the Exploration Club was all together and they went on a really long hike and camped overnight. I thought about going with them but I was too lazy. I found a barrel and turned LIQUID and rested there in the sunshine but I splashed some little drops out to be little tiny cats and they went with the pocket foxies in their submarines and boats. The little mes weren't enough like people to drive the boats, but it was fun riding in them and snuggling the pocket foxies and trying to catch the fish outside the clear submarines. Secret found the barrel and tried to STIR me, and that was really weird and made me dizzy, but then the barrel fell over and I went glug glug and that was weird too. I stayed in one piece so that me was the same as usual and played with everybody and tickled Secret and helped build a raft while the tiny mes were with the foxies. Nobody knew some of me was missing until the foxies brought them back! I tried to be liquid some other times but it didn't work. It's really TRICKY.
When the tiny mes went with the foxies, they went out of the cove past the wave-catching islands and a fish as big as the submarines tried to eat us, but they ZAPPED it with harpoons and towed it back for everybody to eat. It was really yummy.
Max ate blue flowers and blue butterflies and blue beetles, and then she went in the ocean and ate blue shrimps and little blue fish. She tried eating a blue SEA SLUG but it was so yucky she spit it out and her mouth felt weird so she ran to get a grownup. She was OK but she got in trouble for eating something weird without asking first.
After the campout, the Exploration Club wanted to do more exploring so they went to an island with caves and explored there. They had to use a really big boat so Maa-uu could go, but Faun and Simoun and Sahara and I were all there to help row. We helped explore, too, and learned about making CAVE MAPS from Dmitri. We found a GIANT snake skeleton in one of the caves, but we didn't take it until we asked grownups if it was OK. They said it was, so now the Exploration Club has a really COOL thing to put in their clubhouse and that means they have to have a clubhouse. Maybe they'll use the house in Number-dad and Shoe-auncle's meadow, or maybe they'll get a new place.
All the jaguars paid lots of attention to VV-gram because she's growing a new kitten and tried to sniff under her tail a bunch. That's really RUDE but sometimes wild animals don't have good manners. They gave her lots of animals they hunted and stayed by her and walked to get water with her and everything. Shoe-auncle said it was like she was having THEIR kitten. That's weird, but I think it's OK if all cats like to take care of songkittens.
When I was looking at the llamies and their fancy collars and hats that their people knitted for them, a human girl yelled at me to leave them alone because they weren't for eating. I said I knew that because they were llamies and not just llamas so then we were friends. Her name is Llama Biter, because one time when a llama was being bad and bit her, she bit it back. She doesn't have any mom or dad because their boat sank, but it was a long time ago so she says she isn't sad any more and now the WHOLE TOWN is her family. I think maybe she's a little bit sad, but she's really nice and we teamed up to play beach volleyball and did really good.
I really liked playing with the sheepies, but I liked getting to talk to Shoe-auncle and Tansy-gram and Pounce-auncle and Ruffur-teacher and everybody too. They're all really cool and nice and I don't get to see them very much. They wanted to talk about how it's really cool that VV-gram is going to have a kitten, but I think it's really cool too! I talked to Shoe-auncle about animals and teaching and I talked to Ruffur and Simoun about inventing and I talked to Pounce-auncle and Cally-auncle about singing and took sunshine naps with all of them and it made me really happy. But then we had to all go home because vacation was OVER. I was really sad to leave Sea Monster Cove, but I was pretty happy to go back home and sleep in my own closet and see Hebichi and Spin and everybody.
I spent a long time writing but now I have to stop and get all fancy for the NEW YEAR PARTY.
I'm writing this tomorrow, because I stayed at the party until really late.
It was a big party at the neighborhood center with a masquillion people and lots of decorations and snacks and grownup juice. Spin wasn't there because he lives in a different neighborhood but Hebichi was there and I hugged them a whole bunch because I was REALLY HAPPY to see them again. They looked really pretty in their purple tuxedo. I was happy to see Toka too even though they tried to tickle me. We tried some champagne again but it's still yucky. I'm still a kitten this year but that's OK because Hebichi is still a kid. We did a lot of dancing and we helped younger kids and I told Hebichi and everybody about my vacation and we heard about Bina's vacation to mountains for SKIING but I was still tired from travelling all day and saying goodbye to people so I had to take a nap. Max snuggled up with me because she was tired too. When I woke up, Annabelle and Toka and Simoun were there too and it was really nice, but it was almost time for the NEW YEAR so we had to get up and get some juice to drink and yell right at MIDNIGHT! Lots of people did kisses at midnight, so I kissed Hebichi because I love them. Then we danced a lot more until we both got tired and went to sleep.
Now it's a WHOLE NEW YEAR and lots of things are going happen. We're going to get a tiny new auncle and I'm going to turn 10 with Max and Spin and Faun, and Max and Annabelle are both going to go to the Tail Store, and Humboldt is going to turn 13 but he won't really be a teenager, and we're going to go to Cat Day and shear sheep and go to the Northern Shores again, and maybe go some new places and take new classes and I'm going to love my friends even more!
