I dreamed we had a big New Year party in Dragon-mayor and Super Monkey's city. Everybody had really fancy clothes and some people had masks and the party was in all the streets by the biggest buildings and there were people giving away snacks and juice and masks and everybody was really happy. Dragon-mayor and Polkie-dot Dragon and Checkyboard Dragon and Bobtail Dragon and some other dragons were there, and lots of humans because that's who mostly lives in the city, and monkeys and cats and dogs and weaselies and elyphants and all kinds of creatures. I danced with Spin and Hebichi who had really pretty dresses and then I danced with Max and Cara and Dragon-mom and all different people. I even danced with dragons and then we got to ride on the dragons' backs and wave at everybody and eat yummy snacks like BAKLAVA. That's really thin crunchy stuff with nuts in between and soaked in honey and it's REALLY YUMMY and it makes your mouth all sticky so you give messy kisses. We stopped dancing for a while to help people give out snacks and then the snack people got to dance, because it was a party for everybody and everybody was helping. That's the best kind of party. All the kids we taught about magic dreaming came to get baklava and juice and Cross and Pumpkin and Cross's brother Criss were with them, so there was a lot more dancing. I got to dance with Super Monkey. He's a really good dancer. It was a REALLY FUN party.
It was a quiet day because lots of grownups were lazy after staying up late for the party. We weren't lazy, we were INDOLENT. That's like being lazy except you're a CAT so it's OK. Being a cat is really good.
It's snowy again, so us kittens and cousins and Pixie and Faun and Hebichi went to have a SNOWBALL FIGHT with Spin and Jeanne and Blond Dmitry and people from their school. It was really fun and everybody got covered in snow until people who aren't ultra-modern got cold and then we went to a snack store and got warm juice and cinnamon rolls and hugs. Then everybody was RECHARGED and we went back to the park and had another snowball fight with some Raptor Dance Party teenagers. There were lots more of us so we ALMOST won, but they snowed us all. Max hid under the snow to POUNCE on them, but they didn't go by her hiding place until she was really cold, so after she did the pounce and smushed that girl's face in the snow, she had to go someplace warm again. Then there were clouds so it wasn't as nice and THEN Number-dad and Clover-auncle came to take us home. The white snow made them look really COOL and really ORANGE. It was a little bit sad to stop playing with our friends, but Max needed to take a WARM BATH and she wanted Rei and Cara to take a bath with her so we all went back. Our house is really cozy.
Tomorrow we have to go to school again, so we hugged Zeb-auncle and Bob-auncle and Momo-auncle and all the other foxies who were visiting a whole bunch. We had a regular dinner and when I'm done writing I'm going to go to bed at the regular time because the holidays are DONE.
Today I got up at the REGULAR TIME and went to school like REGULAR and did REVIEW which means learning all the stuff we learned last year but really fast so we remember it all and can learn more. But I already remembered it so review is BORING. It was nice to see all the kids in my level and talk to them about the holidays. Some kids went to beaches in the Awake World, but I think my beach vacation was best because it had MERMAIDS and OCTOS and SKELETON CAVES.
I forgot to write it about it before because everything was BUSY, but I have ALMOST all different classes now. The kid cooking class only had 3 parts so I'm DONE. Now I'm going to learn BAKING so I can make all kinds of pies and cakes and cookies and really yummy stuff. Pion-teacher got a new job playing violin for an ORCHESTRA so she isn't going to teach any more classes and there aren't any other fiddling classes with room so I'm going to learn regular singing with the ELEPHANT STREET CHOIR. I don't know if it will help me with magic singing, but singing together was really fun so I want to do it more ANYWAY. There's no bowling class now so Hebichi and I would have to join a team and it's not fun enough for that. We're going to learn ORIGAMI instead and it will be really good for my paws. The classes that aren't changing are volleyball and magic singing. Maybe we'll get a different TEACHER for magic singing, though.
I did singing today, except we didn't sing very much because Sakuya-teacher was getting all the new people ORGANIZED. We all had to sing so she could find out where our voices are and put us with the right groups and show us where to find the music and everything. The real singing will start on Wednesday. Then I went to origami class with Hebichi and Wolffe-teacher started showing us how to make frog bases right away but then we had to stop and practice making NICE NEAT folds because we were all TOO SLOPPY. It made my hands a little bit sore but it was lots of fun and my hands got kisses from Hebichi and Florence and Dromo and Snapdragon. I'm not as good as Annabelle, but I like making new friends.
Everybody was tired from having a regular day after being on vacation, but we had another party anyway because it's VV-GRAM'S BIRTHDAY! We don't know how old she is so I gave her a masquillion kisses and that was probably enough, but then I gave her more kisses JUST IN CASE. She purred a whole bunch because everybody was giving her kisses and hugs and Nessie-auncle made a big yummy cake for her. Mostly it was a grownup party, so all her grownup friends were there and talked about grownup stuff, but it was still nice. I love VV-gram a lot.
Baking class is really INTERESTING. We aren't just baking things, we have to learn about starches and glutens and water and yeasts and sugars and proteins and everything and it's really COMPLICATED. I think I'm the youngest person in the class. I'm not the only kitten in the class because Dmitri is learning baking too. I didn't know that before because he joined at the last minute when his JUGGLING class got cancelled. I wanted the baking class to be just for me but it's OK that Dmitri is there. He's being really nice and helping me but not too much.
Magic singing class is on Thursday now and we have new people! Simone is a teenager like Morgan and she was in Zora's class at school and she has really FLUFFY pink hair and her name is like Simoun so they're name friends. Stev is a GROWNUP and he's like a wolf and he has a purple frock coat and wants to learn magic singing so he can put it together with harp playing and do MAGIC HARPING. Sahara and Simoun think he's scary, but he's quiet and I think he's nice and VV-gram wouldn't teach magic to any mean people.
Simoun and Sahara and Number-dad and I had a dream about going into a desert together. We had good shoes and good hats and lots of WATER so it was OK, but it was a lot of walking in sand and keeping good track of LANDMARKS so we didn't get lost. There were lots of rocks everywhere and hardly any plants so it looked like MARS and we talked about Mars and planets and space train and I realized I forgot Isaac Mewton's BIRTHDAY and felt bad. But it was nice to be with Number-dad and my big sisters and not everybody. I love everybody in my family but all of us together are really LOUD. We found some rocks that looked like somebody had carved them and then we found a really tall steep PYRAMID rock that had a flying boat on top of it. It made Number-dad squack, because Sahara and Simoun had to fall down all that way, but they know how to fall like cats so they were OK. They couldn't get back up because the pyramid was too STEEP, but Number-dad is really good at jumping. He wasn't good enough to jump all the way to the boat, though! He had to make his claws MAGICALLY SHARP and then run up the pyramid as far as he could and THEN jump and then he made it! The boat fell off the pyramid and my sisters squacked really loud, but Number-dad turned on the lifting rays so it came down the right way. We all danced in a circle and sang the Good Job Dad song before we woke up.
The next night Max and I dreamed about the space train and I was really sorry to Isaac Mewton. He wasn't mad, though, because he was too busy chasing RAINBOWS to worry about birthdays. It was really cute. I said I tried to get him a box of gravity but it all leaked out and I had to fill the box with peanut butter treats instead, and he laughed and laughed. He told me all about going to math classes and space classes and alien classes, and I told him all about my classes and the vacation we went on, and then Max got tired of talking and tried to eat his TAIL and we had to play tussling with no gravity and alien kids came to help but they all helped ISAAC and I got tickled until all my squacks came out! It was a funny dream.
It was another snowy week, and this time it got really cloudy and windy and COLD. Dmitri and I put on sweaters and warm socks and our warmest coats and warm boots and tail warmers to go over to Spin's house and we were still almost FROZEN when we got there. We had to get a lot of hugs to thaw out! Then when our whole family went to play games, we drove in the van even though it's close enough to walk because after dark it was TOO COLD even for kittens with layers.
It was really cold even in the Dreamlands and some FROST GIANTS came to cause trouble because it was cold enough they wouldn't melt, but Dragon-mayor and all the other dragons and some cats with FIRE ROCKETS chased them off. Hebichi tried to help by shooting fire at them with their blowgun but it wasn't enough fire. Bobtail Dragon saved them from being buried in snow, but then he got a cold and felt really miserable. Hebichi was really sorry and we sat with Bobtail Dragon and gave him buckets of warm juice and read books to him until he felt better. A lot of the kids we taught magic dreaming to were there to help, so I think we were good teachers. Some of them helped set up heaters at my zoo, so all the animals were OK, even ones that like being really warm. Having a bunny inside your coat is REALLY COZY.
I was a good student at all my classes even though origami class made my hands sore. Dragon-mom taught me some more exercises to do on other days, and I think they help. I'm doing better at singing together with people too.
At Magic Singing class, there was a teenager with pink hair in a fluffy ponytail but it wasn't Simone, it was SIMON! I didn't know they were a person who's a boy and a girl on different days, so I fell over, but it's really cool. Maybe I shouldn't be a boy every day, but I don't ever feel like a girl. Dmitri could be a girl sometimes, and her name could be DEMETER. When I said that, he smushed me in the snow, so I guess he always feels like a boy too.
When it started to get a little bit warmer on Friday, the moosies and pengies came back, but it was a BIGGER group. Harold-moose made friends with a moose from a different forest at the Snowy Hoof Convention and went to live with them this winter, but 3 YAKIES come with Boogie and everybody to see the Northern Shore. I forgot how BIG yaks are! They're bigger than cows, even teenager yaks like these ones. The youngest one was called Freckle Horn because 1 of her horns had spots all over it, and she was already as big as a moose. The other 2 were Butterfly Eater, who spent all summer trying to sneak up on butterflies and eat them and then found out butterflies don't taste like very much, and Avalanche Yeller, who's learning magic singing. Yak singing is different than cat singing, but she talked to VV-gram and Number-dad a lot. Butterfly Eater talked to Max a lot about eating WEIRD THINGS. But they all came in the Gram house and got hugs and vegetable dinner and now we're FRIENDS. The pengies got Beautiful Sushi dinner and we talked to them about how hard it is to make shoes that are comfortable on webbed feet and the cool moose harnesses that hold a penguin on one side and lots of stuff from the convention on the other. Then they all slept on the porch and got up really early to go back to the train station and go HOME. I miss them, but I bet they liked going home after being away for a long time.
Rose-auncle and Clover-auncle wanted to go with them, but didn't because they have classes. I'm worried that when their classes are done, they'll go exploring again and we won't see them for a long time.
On Sunday we played volleyball against each other and my team won. I was really proud, but I gave Hebichi a masquillion hugs so they didn't feel bad. Then we had cinnamon rolls.
I thought it was a regular week, but I wrote so much I think it was really a BUSY week. I had fun, though.
I had a scary dream about the fairies. It was an imaginary dream, but I really didn't like it. The fairies caught me and Spin and Hebichi and put us inside their magic tree. It was sunshiny and blue skies everywhere, and my dragonfly Candlewick was there, but we couldn't get out to see our families ever again. It made me feel really bad. Number-dad's dream-helper bee, Melli-chan, came and rescued us and told the fairies to stop kidnapping people or she'd STING them, but I still felt bad when I woke up in the middle of the night and Candlewick wasn't there. I wanted to call Spin and Hebichi, but I'm not allowed to use the phone when it's sleeping time. I couldn't sleep so I went all around the house to find something to help me feel better and even went outside where it was really cold, but it didn't help. I curled up by Clover on the shelf in the living room and cried a little because I still felt bad, and she woke up enough to wash my ears and purr to me. That helped, and I had another imaginary dream but it was about ice skating and making a hole in the ice to catch winter fish and share them with Clover. Melli-chan was there but she stayed in a tent because bees don't like the cold and don't hunt fish.
Hebichi and Spin didn't have dreams about fairies, so I don't think it was an important dream. It was just my BRAIN remembering how SCARED I was. Dragon-mayor said he found somebody good to be the fairies' king and they won't go extinct or make any more trouble so it's all OK now. I'm only a little bit sad about Candlewick. I think she's OK.
I wanted to go diving in the lake because I remembered how fun diving was in the ocean, but I can't because it's TOO FROZEN. The water isn't too cold for people with good cold water suits, but if you can't swim up and get air in case your breather breaks, it's not SAFE. We got Hebichi and Faun and Pixie and Rei and went to the bubble pool that's for swimming in the winter. It was nice, but not as fun as diving. Udo-auncle's friend Caleb was there to do SERIOUS SWIMMING but he stopped and played with us and that was really nice. Rei thought he was really pretty when his white fur was all soggy.
I didn't dry off enough when we went home so the wind made me REALLY COLD and I hid under Number-dad when I got home. I needed cozy fluff!
It's dinnertime so I'll write more about this week tomorrow like REGULAR.
Number-dad's birthday was this Thursday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NUMBER-DAD! He said he was a MILLION YEARS OLD before so now he's 2 million, but I counted from his journal and I think he's really 40. That's pretty grown up, but not OLD. I think it's a good age for being a dad. Maybe I'll be a dad when I'm 40. We had pizza with extra bacon and lots of ice cream and we all helped make a cake. Dmitri and I helped Fairy-mom bake it, and Dragon-mom did the fancy writing on top, but we ALL helped decorate it. I think it got a little bit silly, but it was full of LOVE and Number-dad said it was really nice. We had a good family party and then Number-dad's grownup friends came for the grownup party. I think after we kittens went to bed, there was GROWNUP KISSING.
We kittens all together got Number-dad a little statue of a SPHINX because we thought it was really pretty and cool and we got Flower-gram and Zora to help us put magic into it to help him and take care of him. A sphinx is like a lion but with a head and a mom chest like a modern lady, and wings. They're from EGYPT stories, so this one looked like Egypt art and had a necklace with a sun and wings like mine. Number-dad put the statue in his studio to help him draw, but the next day all his manga pages had LITTLE BLACK PAWPRINTS all over them. He tried to undo them, but his desk said those pawprints were the FIRST thing on the pages, even though he started some of them before we gave him the statue. Maybe we put too much magic into the statue, but Number-dad liked it. He took the pawprints off but he left 1 on each page so the statue wouldn't think he didn't APPRECIATE it. Maybe we'll meet the sphinx in the Dreamlands.
My big brothers and big sisters and Hebichi and Faun and Pixie and Spin and Jeanne and Blond Dmitry and I all went to the Inverted Obverse concert on Thursday and it was REALLY COOL. They played a lot of their songs that are good for dancing and we danced with all the teenagers. We were the youngest people there but everybody was really nice to us and they liked our concert outfits, especially Spin's leather jacket with every-color SCALES. Pixie played flirts with them but they didn't want to kiss her because she's 12. She got a little bit sad because she wants to be a teenager and do grownup kissing with teenagers and not just kids, but then Dmitri and Jeanne danced with her a bunch and they all yelled. Then Inverted Obverse played some songs that we knew because they were HONEYCAT songs! That's called covering somebody else's song. We didn't know they went to Dreamlands. We'll have to see if they do any concerts there.
The concert went until late and then we stayed up talking about it even more so I was really SLEEPY on Friday, but it was really fun.
I don't want to forget how to fiddle, so Hebichi and I decided that every week we would go someplace with kids and fiddle for them. This week we went to Hebichi's house and Toka and lots of their friends from play group danced really WILD to our music. Hebichi's dads danced really ROMANTIC when we played quieter music. It was really fun. Hebichi wants to go to Secret's house next week, but that's scary. I know Secret and JJ and Finn and Huma, and Secret's mom, but there are lots of other people there and they might not like our fiddling. Pion-teacher taught us a lot but there's lots more to learn before we're as good as her. I don't want people to have to say nice things about my fiddling even though it's bad because I'm a kitten. That's like when people let me win a game even though I made a bunch of mistakes. It makes me feel really bad like I can't do anything on my own. I want to get really grown up so I can do EVERYTHING.
I was right, we met the sphinx from Number-dad's statue in the Dreamlands. She was big and black and really pretty and lived in a big fancy building where people came and asked her to give them helping magic. I think it was a TEMPLE. Humboldt and I didn't ask for magic because we're cats and we can do our OWN magic, but we told her she's really pretty and we appreciate her helping our favorite dad and we gave her a present of ice cream. I think that's called making an offering, but it's OK when cats do it because we know better than to WORSHIP anything.
Max really wanted to meet the sphinx and be friends with her because goblin cats like Max are sometimes called sphinx cats. Fairy-mom and Humboldt and I went with her so she didn't do anything RUDE or get in trouble, but as soon as the sphinx saw Max she stuck out the bottom of her hand. Max yelled "BEANS!" and bapped their handbeans together and did MAXIMUM SMILE and then they were friends. It makes me really happy when Max gets lots of friends.
When I went to my zoo, I told Zsuzsy about the sphinx and she really wanted to see her too, because she thinks sphinxes are really cool, so we took her there after work. She thought the sphinx's temple was really pretty and she thought the sphinx was really pretty, but the sphinx thought Zsuzsy was really pretty too so they did FLIRTS and then they were friends. I don't know if they're going to be grownup kissing friends. Zsuzsy asked the sphinx to give my zoo some helping magic, and gave her an offering of beautiful flowers. They're friends so I think that isn't worshipping, but I'm a little bit worried. Humboldt thinks it's OK.
Another night Zora wanted to see the sphinx so we showed her and Ai where the temple was. The sphinx was having a PARTY, with lots of people in fancy clothes and some dragons talking to her and I think lots of those people thought she was REALLY PRETTY. Zsuzsy got to sit next to her even though her dress wasn't as fancy and her face was all pink because lots of people were looking at her, but her and the sphinx were really FRIENDS. Zora and Ai thought the sphinx was pretty too, but Zora got a little bit sad because she isn't sitting next to Zsuzsy and holding her hand. I think it's hard when you stop being kissing friends with somebody, even if you get a really nice new kissing friend like Ai. Zora said she'll say nihao to the sphinx some other time. I think she means when Zsuzsy is busy working at the zoo.
A lot of the kids we taught magic dreaming to are working at my zoo too now. They all like animals and they like helping and they don't mind that it's really COLD. It makes me really happy, but it's OK if later they want to do something else. Everybody should get to pick what kind of nice dream they have. I think dreams with bunnies are the best, but dreams with ellyphants are really good too.
I was really nervous about going to fiddle at Secret's house, and I started off by making a bunch of mistakes and I ALMOST cried, but Hebichi looked at me really SERIOUS and Secret's mom said, "You can do it, Samuel" and I took a DEEP BREATH to get my brain going all the same way, and then I fiddled up a STORM. Everybody danced and they sang when they knew words for what we were playing and when we got tired they all hugged us a bunch. It was a really good show after all!
In the middle of the night I wanted to go outside and sit in the treehouse and look at the stars, but Humboldt was ALREADY THERE. It was OK. We sat there wrapped up in blankets and talked about important brother stuff and how to be brave and sang the Sorry If Our Sister Eats You All Up song to the stars and listened in case they sang something back. If they did, it's a SECRET. Then we were really cold so we went back inside, but it was a really good brother time. It wasn't time for just me, though.
The next night I tried again, but this time REI was there. Lots of people want to look at the stars and think about things this week. I talked to Rei about stars and spaceships and how Cara is really wonderful, but mostly we sat together and looked at the stars and thought about stuff and she gave me lots of quiet pets. It was really nice.
