Whenever I go to Hebichi's, Toka asks how MLLE SQUEAKS is doing and if she's wiggling enough. It's really cute. Toka is really cute TOO. They have a little tail now, and their ears are getting pointy and FUZZY. I think they're getting more like a KITTY. They said it's from cuddling kittens so much. Ultramodern people are really cool!
I went to the library in Dragon-mayor's city with Dmitri and Humboldt and we got some ATLASES and books about explorations that other people did, so we can look for the best way to get to the cats who live in valleys past the cloud giants. We took everything back to the clubhouse so everybody could look at it. There isn't a good place for Maa-uu to sit in the library when dragons are READING. We found some POSSIBILITIES and it looks like the wombat tunnel from the valley of giant invisible animals is where we should start.
The cousins wanted to rearrange their house to have more COUCHES and fewer CHAIRS, so they were carrying furniture and Nico said he should take the heavy end because he's stronger than Zora and she said he's not, so they had ARM WRESTLE. Nico won 3 times in a row with both arms. Then they LEG WRESTLED and it was a TIE. I didn't think it was important, but it made Zora really UPSET and she went to hide in her room. Nessie-auncle said it's because she feels bad about not being a BIG SISTER any more. She's only an OLDER sister now. I understand that a little bit, but it's weird. Maybe Humboldt will understand when Dmitri gets stronger than him. Maybe someday I'll be stronger than Humboldt.
Zilla, that's one of the Raptor Dance Party volleyball players, did a really good SPIKE and I tried to get it, but I didn't get it with my paws because the floor was SLIPPERY. I got it with my HEAD. That was really bad! It went BANG and my chin hurt and my head hurt and I couldn't SEE right and everybody worried and I felt really BAD for making a mistake that stopped the game. I said I was OK, but Ilona-teacher was worried because I'm not an ultra-modern person, so she took me to the NURSE. The athletic center still has a nurse because not everybody is ultra-modern yet. The nurse that was there that day was really TALL and pretty and had blond hair that went every direction because he's Blond Dmitri's COUSIN. His name is Magnus and he's really nice. He showed me what my brain looks like. I've seen pictures of brains, but it's different when it's your OWN brain. There was a little bit of green on the bottom of it where it smushed, but Magnus said it would be OK if I RESTED. I felt bad I couldn't play any more volleyball, but I cheered for my team and we WON.
Hebichi and my siblings weren't worried about me because they know I'm TOUGH, but my parents worried LOTS and gave me a masquillion PURRS and washed my ears and my face and my head. It was embarrassing, but it was nice too. I know it's because they love me. Annabelle gave me extra cuddles too, because she remembers her week of getting hit in the head. She's a really good little sister.
I have a headache. I hope I feel better tomorrow. I'm going to bed early.
I had a Space Train dream with Annabelle and Sahara, and Isaac Mewton washed my head really NICE and we floated without gravity and played with really big slow balls with some alien kids. It was a nice dream and I got some CHITINOUS hugs and when I woke up my head feels lots better. I think FLOATING without gravity helped my brain get better, even though brains are always floating in our heads. Maybe the brain cows like no gravity.
Toka came to visit Tiny Squeak and call her MLLE SQUEAKS and tell her how great she is and how she should come play with their kittens when she learns to walk, but then they tried to kiss her squeak and it wasn't a squeak, it was a SPIT-UP. Toka yelled because it was gross, and their Poppy laughed, and then Toka cried and everybody had to hug them. It was only funny because Toka did that when they were a baby and their Poppy tried to kiss THEIR squeak. Toka was really sorry, but they didn't have to be, because that's just how tiny babies are. I kissed them and they didn't spit up on me. Good job, Toka!
I don't know whether Tiny Squeak will be sorry when we tell her this story later. I hope she's a nice person who doesn't want to make anybody unhappy, but I don't want people to be sorry for things that aren't bad decisions. Being nice is complicated. You can do it, Tiny Squeak!
Another day I went to see Tiny Squeak after dinner, and Flower-gram and Clover-auncle were sitting with VV-gram while Tiny Squeak nursed and Nessie-auncle was drawing them so I wanted to draw TOO. I tried drawing how people FEEL instead of what they look like, because that's important for artists. I drew VV-gram as a long brownish-white shape that got more brown at the ends, but that didn't feel like she loved and PROTECTED Tiny Squeak enough, so I drew her like a C-shape instead. Tiny Squeak was an orangish-white stripe across her tummy, Clover-auncle was an orange circle with orange stripes because she was curled up. Flower-gram was lots of orange CURLIES for her hair, and round shapes for her body, with a white round and two grey rounds for Beethoven and Flip-Flop and Flim-Flam in her lap. I drew Nessie-auncle with TRIANGLES because she was sitting criss-cross and leaning over her drawing pad.
Nessie-auncle is a really GOOD artist, so her pictures looked like everybody but they showed how people FEEL too. I felt a little bit bad about my picture because it wasn't as good, but then Nessie said it was good and I'm making PROGRESS so I felt better. She showed me some ideas to make the picture better, too! She drew a dark orange line around the edge of Clover, to show part of the circle was her TAIL. Then she drew a little light orange triangle on Tiny Squeak to be her EAR so it showed how her face was squished on her mum's tummy to nurse. I said, "I didn't understand the POWER of ORANGE!" and Clover laughed, because she thinks orange is the best color. Nessie-auncle drew a tiny green line on Clover to look like her eye was a tiny bit open, to show that she waw WATCHING OUT for Tiny Squeak, and Clover had to say, "Green excellent color too" and everybody laughed and hugged her.
I think all the colors of the rainbow are powerful! That's why I have them on my tail. I have white and grey on my BODY, but I need some black and brown too. Maybe I can get Bruno and Beezer to go everywhere with me. That would be really funny.
I need to practice drawing more. I need to practice lots of things more. I want to know how to do everything like my grownups do! Do your best, Samuel!
Annabelle did some more modelling with Elevator Alligator and Dmitri and Max got to model too. They're so cute! This time, they were modelling cozy warm clothes for WINTER. Lots of the kittens who modelled before came back again, so I got to see Alexina and Morrow and Mercury, and Humboldt got to see Isambard. We all got to see Lev-artist again too. He's a really nice allygator! Max was really happy she got to model with Brunel and gave him masquillions of kisses and washed his ears like a big sister, but he knows more about modelling so she let him give her advice. Good listening, Max!
Hebichi and Spin and I helped the Exploration Club PLAN for our expedition. Sonny helped too, but doggie help is like little kid help. I'm really glad they said Spin and Hebichi can come too. It would be OK if it was just me, but I like having my BEST FRIENDS with me. It's going to be a really good expedition!
When the Exploration Club goes on their own, I think they don't do this much PREPARATION, but they want to show us how they're really responsible and SERIOUS explorers like they learned from Rose-auncle and Clover-auncle. I already knew, but it's OK. They're working to become REAL explorers. You can do it, guys!
I have the same classes this season as last season, even though farming won't take up very much of it because we're HARVESTING everything. I don't know what I'll do after that. Maybe I'll practice drawing and try to learn MAGIC ART. Maybe I'll snuggle Tiny Squeak ALL DAY. Maybe I'll practice HIBERNATING like a bear because it's going to get colder soon. Maybe I'll go to sleep so I'm not so SILLY.
We had a really nice dream with the UNDERHIDERS last night. It was their mom's BIRTHDAY so they had a party in a cave because she likes being UNDER things. This time she was a tiny person with a black dress and striped socks and red hair in a pointy BUN and lots of sharp things like needles and papercraft knives. There were lots of LIZARDS, and Parsel was there too. We got TAKEOUT PURPLE SUSHI and rainbow cake and there was lots of dancing and some grownups had grownup juice and got really SILLY and it was a fun party. I got to talk to Parsel and he said things got better at school when girls stopped trying to set each other on fire, but then a grownup he thought was his friend stopped talking to him because he got a SNOGGING FRIEND so he's sad again. Maybe it's hard being a teenager.
Happy birthday, Mum-Pointy! That's what Number-dad calls her.
It took a long time to get ready for the expedition because Spin and Hebichi weren't there every night, but we got that SORTED OUT. Now we're ready to GO!
Spin wanted to go on motorcycles, because that would be really cool, but the Dreamlands has OLD-FASHIONED motorcycles that can only go a little ways before you have to give them more FUEL, and there aren't any motorcycles that are good for Maa-uu or Explorobot. We're going to travel by EXPLORER BOOTS. Except Maa-uu and Explorobot and Mazurkasaurus and Sonny and Jackie, who don't wear boots, and sometimes Rei who likes to let their toes BREATHE.
It's going to be a GREAT expedition!
Travelling in the Dreamlands can be MYSTERIOUS. We've all been to the valley with the stone circle where we learn Dancing Spider Glyphs lots, so it was easier to get there again, and Spin and Hebichi and I have been to the WOMBAT TUNNEL so we didn't get lost even when Sonny and Maz ran off to chase squirrels. Sonny just barked at them, but Maz ATE some. It was gross, but she's a HUNTING dinosaur like the giant turkeys.
We saw some of the giant porcypines but nobody tried to hunt them. They're too big and SHARP. We didn't see any of the invisible animals, but we smelled them all over. We smelled them LOTS at the wombat tunnel, so we think they went through ahead of us. There weren't any wombats left, because the tunnel was FINISHED. It was really good work!
That's as far as we got last night, but today we talked about about it in the Awake World and told our friends about it. They want to go with us, but we can't take EVERYBODY. We're going to teach people more MAGIC DREAMING so they can go on dream adventures without us.
I dreamed that we went through the Wombat Tunnel and it was HUGE. Dmitri measured it and it was 37m wide, 23m tall, and 9.2 KILOMETERS long! The biggest animals any of us know about are only 18m tall, so that would be a lot of extra digging for the wombats unless the invisible animals are EVEN TALLER. We could smell that a whole bunch of them went through the tunnel, but there was a big CANAL on the side with water going through it to wash away giant poo so it wasn't messy.
The tunnel was so long that our WHOLE DREAM was just walking along it. There were little holes in the roof to let in fresh air and light, and we're all good at seeing in the dark except Maa-uu and she had a NECKLIGHT, so it wasn't scary except a little bit because it was UNDERGROUND and not everybody likes that. We talked about why all the invisible animals went through the tunnel, and how the wombats dug it so fast, and what was on the other end, but we DON'T KNOW. We got to where we could see some light at the bottom and then we WOKE UP and had to run to fighting class. Dmitri and Humboldt were sorry it wasn't a more exciting dream, but I liked it.
Lots of people were talking about costumes because it's OCTOBER. I had some ideas for a costume, but I don't think they're JUST RIGHT, so I'm going to keep thinking. Maybe I'll do a GROUP costume with Spin and Hebichi, but then we all have to have the SAME idea so that's hard. You can do it, Samuel!
Maybe because we had so many expedition dreams already, last night was a pretty short dream adventure. We got out of the wombat tunnel into a warmer place with lots of ferny trees like in DINOSAUR TIMES, but some flowers too. There were really big TRAILS where the invisible animals went, so we followed them, but they went into a LAKE. There were a lot of big bugs that Maz and Sonny chased, and then a HUGE bug bigger than me! It wasn't a person and wasn't anybody's buggie, so Humboldt and Cara hunted it, and then we made a fire by the edge of the lake and had BBQ bug. It was really yummy, like shrimp! Maa-uu showed us the best ferns to eat, and they were yummy like spinch, so we all got really FAT and made a camp.
I think hunting regular bugs is OK, because they have tiny brains so they don't understand suffering. They just wiggle around and then die. Some big bugs are smart, though, like the ones that guard the way into the Dreamlands.
Simoun and Sahara are lots HAPPIER now. Simoun went to do Meerbot Clinic and once there was only Washerbot with a FLAT TIRE and the next time there wasn't anybody! A lot of meerbots needed the clinic because Aimée hadn't felt good enough to take care of them for a while before she died, but now Simoun and the pocket foxies have fixed them all up and they only have to worry about NEW problems. Simoun is happy because she doesn't feel like a bad MOM to the meerbots now, and Sahara is happy because her sister has time to play with her and give her CUDDLES. It makes me really happy. I love you, big sisters!
Max said I should be something LITTLE and BLUE for Halloween, so she can chase me around and try to eat me. I said I'd be a BLUE SUPERGIANT STAR so I'd be too big to eat, but she showed how she can open her mouth wide enough to EAT MY HEAD. She's FEROCIOUS!
After we finish harvesting everything from the farm, I'm going to take a DRAWING class! It's the kind where somebody POSES for everybody to draw, so we can learn to draw PEOPLE better. I asked if it was for learning to draw how people LOOK or how they FEEL and they said it's for INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE so it's whatever I want. I don't know if I'm good enough to do individual practice without a teacher, but I'm going to try. Do your best, Samuel!
The PEDIATRICIAN said Tiny Squeak is doing really GOOD. Good job GROWING, Mlle Squeaks! She still doesn't do very much except wiggle and cry and poo, but that's because she's only a MONTH old, so she's doing what she's supposed to.
There are some more monsters that need hunting, but the old monsters are all DEFEATED, so none of my family have to go. I'm really glad. Zora isn't glad, because she wants to save people from monsters, but she has to WAIT. In the spring she'll be 18 and then she can go to ADVANCED TRAINING. That takes a whole year, but after that she'll be a grownup and she can go monster hunting if any hunters want her to join their team. I think they will, because she's brave and fierce and cool and knows lots of fighting magic. Then I'll worry about her a lot.
We're still in the middle of my expedition, but last night we all dreamed about something different. Things in the Dreamlands don't have to happen IN ORDER because it's MYSTERIOUS. I asked Dmitri if that makes him shriek, but he said he thinks there's a different order that he just doesn't understand yet. If he understands it, maybe the Dreamlands won't be so mysterious.
We dreamed we were all in the park in Dragon-mayor's city. Even Maa-uu and Mama-uu and some other tricers were there. I think they were Mama-uu's SPOUSES. VV-gram and Tiny Squeak were there and lots of people were giving them love. Even Ai and Zora were there. Ai used to not like Tiny Squeak very much, because she only nurses and poops and cries and wiggles and squeaks and NAPS, but after being around her more, she started to love her, and now every time she visits Zora, she has to stop in at the Gram House to give Mlle Squeaks some kisses. She even learned to change diapers so Tiny Squeak wouldn't have to have poo on her bum. Tiny Squeak GREW on her!
In our dream, Zora and Ai had to BABYSIT for a minute because VV-gram jumped up and ran away around the edge of the park and jumped up in a TREE. Then Shoe-auncle came into the park and she POUNCED. It was a good pounce, but when they tussled, Shoe-auncle DEFEATED her! She pouted when they came back, because she used to be a monster hunter so she thought she should be able to defeat other cats. She said she's OUT OF PRACTICE from having a kitten, but Shoe-auncle said maybe he's been practicing fighting with DRAGONS. You're so cool, Shoe-auncle!
We sat under Aimée's tree and sang the Everybody Loves Tiny Squeak song until VV-gram made us hush so that Tiny Squeak could NAP. Sleep tight, Mlle Squeaks!
We're back to the EXPEDITION when we dream. We were still by the lake with leftover BBQ bug for breakfast and a really nice TRICER to cuddle. The lake looked really clear, so Hebichi and Cara tried swimming in it because they don't care if water is cold, but then a water bug came to see and it was BIGGER THAN MAA-UU. Even if it couldn't eat them, it was so big and strong that maybe it could keep them underwater until they ran out of OXYGEN. That lake is no good for swimming!
We went around the lake to a place where it was WIDER so we could see better. There was a lot of SPLASHING on the other side, like really big animals, but even when we got out binoculars we couldn't see them. It was the INVISIBLE ANIMALS taking a bath. They went into the forest before we could do any magic to find out what they're like. I think they're shy.
We could see OVER the ferns on the other side of the lake, and there were big mountains with snow on them, and clouds stuck at the very top. There were little TINY clouds too, and when we looked at them with the binoculars, they were CLOUD SHEEPIES. I was really happy because we could see the cloud giants' mountains, but Dmitri said it was still a really LONG ways. Maybe even 100km! That's like walking through the wombat tunnel 11 TIMES. Then I felt bad for making the Exploration Club go so far just for me, but they all said they've never been here, so it's a REAL EXPLORATION and if my tail stayed down Pixie and Cara would tickle the LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of me. I put my tail up really QUICK! Then Maa-uu SLURPED me, so I laughed for real and it was all OK.
The invisible animals left a big path that went kind of towards the mountains, so we followed it for a long ways and talked about what we might find in the fern valley besides HUGE BUGS. Then we talked about dinos and their names, and Rei said the invisible animals should be calld CRYPTOTHERIA, because that means SECRET BEASTS. Good idea, Rei!
Humboldt and Dmitri asked our parents if they could have a big sleepover to teach more kids MAGIC DREAMING. They had to talk about it a LOT but there's going to be a magic dreaming CLASS on Friday week! It will be in the NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER so everybody who wants to learn can be there, and our whole family is going to help, even VV-gram and Tiny Squeak. Tiny Squeak can't teach people magic dreaming yet, but she helps by making everything full of LOVE. It's really exciting, but SCARY too. I was afraid it would mess up my BIRTHDAY EXPEDITION but Number-dad says it's OK. Now I'm worried I won't be able to teach people right. Do your best, Samuel!
There were lots of BIG TRAILS in the fern forest where the cryptotheria went. We're all still really CURIOUS about them, but we decided not to try to follow the trails and find them because they're SHY. We followed the trails that took us toward the cloud giant mountain until we ran out and then we squished through the soggy forest. There were lots of big bugs and lots of snakes that hunted them, so it's a good thing we didn't have any HUMANS with us. They might get scared!
Rei took lots of pictures of the snakes. There were a masquillion different kinds! None of them were very big, though.
We found a circle of standing stones on top of a hill, like the one where we learn Dancing Spider Glyphs, so we stopped and did some REVIEW. We looked up the glyphs for all different SNAKES and practiced writing notes to them. It was really fun!
It was only afternoon when we finished, but the hill was a good place to make camp without getting DAMP, so we stayed there and helped Dmitri with the maps until it got dark. We could see a lot of ferns from the top of the stones! We could see some rivers and a big clearing too.
Lots of people SIGNED UP for magic dreaming class! I thought it would be kids, but there are lots of GROWNUPS too. I said I hope they don't dream about snogs, but Clover laughed and laughed. If they try, I'll get all the kids to go and have a NICE dream adventure.
When we woke up to keep exploring, Maz was a really HELPFUL dino. She brought Spin half of a BIG BUG and put it right on his face so he could have it for BREAKFAST. I think it was really nice of her, but it was really FUNNY too. Spin got all covered in BUG BLOOD and squacked a lot, but gave Maz some hugs because he knew she was being nice. Then we cooked the bug and he really ATE it, because he didn't want to make Maz feel bad. Spin is the NICEST! He got a lot of DINO KISSES.
We walked a long ways in the fern forest, but we didn't find anything really EXCITING that day. There were more snakes and a lot of mushrooms and it was hard for Dmitri to do maps because there was nowhere to climb up high. The fern trees were too FLIMSY, but they were taller than even Pixie standing way up on Maa-uu's back so we couldn't see much. We had to navigate by the SUN to keep heading for the cloud giant mountains, but the explorers are good at that.
We got to river by sunset, so we had a big rock to camp on and didn't have to sleep in the MUD. It was a good exploration!
In Magic Singing class, we talked about magic LULLABIES to help people have dream adventures. We practiced some and VV-gram helped, and it was OK because Tiny Squeak already goes to the Dreamlands with her MUM. Simon said he would come to the dreaming class and Morgan said they MIGHT but I think they will. They don't like saying yes right away because they're a GRUMP. Stev wasn't here today but we'll ask him next week.
It's going to be a really good class!
This time Maz brought Spin a water snake for breakfast but it was STILL ALIVE and tried to bite him. We all squacked a lot! The snake was already hurt from Maz CHOMPING it, so Spin killed it and we cooked it. I felt a little bit bad for the snake, but Maz is a HUNTING dino. It was really yummy, so I liked eating it but then I felt worse. It's sad when everybody hunts animals instead of being friends with them, but explorers can't get meat from stores. Nobody can in the Dreamlands because it's so OLD-FASHIONED.
The river we camped by came from the direction of the mountains, so we went UPSTREAM. It was a little hard, especially for Maa-uu who comes from the PLAINS, but it wasn't too rough and then we found more trails. They smelled like dinos, maybe STEGOS. Stegosauruses aren't smart like tricers but I like them. Even if we get hungry, I'm not going to let anybody hunt them!
We didn't see any stegos but we saw a lot of BIRDS when we got higher up, and some different kinds of trees. When we looked back, we could see to the hills that the Wombat Tunnel comes out of. We walked a really long way! Good job, everybody's feet!
This time we made camp by where the river splooshes right out of the SIDE of a hill. It was rocky so there were dry places to sleep, and lots of regular trees that still had some APPLES. Maa-uu ate a MASQUILLION apples and got really round and happy. It was really cute! Maz tried eating an apple but she didn't like it. Jackie tried eating an apple really SPOOKY but it was too ridiculous. I ate 3 apples and then gave everybody apple-flavored KISSES, so I did the best. Yay Samuel!
It's 1 WEEK until the magic dreaming class! Number-dad said 53 PEOPLE signed up already! I'm worried that's too many. I know I don't have to teach them all myself. Lots of really good CATS and WIZARDS are going to teach them and I'm just helping, but I'm still worried. I hope we can help everybody have a good dream adventure.
Maz is a really SMART dino so this time she dropped an APPLE on Spin's face for breakfast because she saw he likes eating those. You're the best, Mazurkasaurus Regina!
We kept going up until we got to the TOP of the hills and we could see the big valley between us and the cloud giant's mountains. We still had a long ways to go! The valley looked pretty nice where we wanted to cross it, with only 1 big river and not too much forest, but there was a SCARY place downstream, where it looked like a city got destroyed with bad magic. We all wanted to go there to see what it was like and if there was any treasure, but Humboldt said it wouldn't be SAFE and he's really responsible and won't take younger kids into a place like that. I didn't really want to go because I don't know enough magic, so I didn't argue. But I looked at it a lot. Maybe someday I'll be good enough to go there and find out what happened.
We went down the hills and there were lots of birds that Maz and Sonny and Explorobot chased, and we found a lake that was nice and clear and didn't have any giant water bugs so we went swimming. It was really COLD but there were warm rocks to SUN ourselves on. Maybe we should have kept walking instead of playing in the water, but we made it to the bottom of the hills by dinnertime without having to PUSH.
Right after sunset, we saw a CLOUD GIANT. They were flying way up high so the sun lit them up, but they were too high to see us waving or hear us yelling. It was a good sign, though!
We all woke up in the night because somebody did a really STINKY LOUD fart. It was gross. Nobody admitted to it. Maybe nobody knew because we were all ASLEEP. I don't think it was me because my bum didn't feel weird. It's embarrassing to write about even though everybody farts sometimes.
When the smell went away, we went back to sleep, but I didn't dream about the expedition. I had a different dream, and maybe it was an imaginary dream. I couldn't tell. I dreamed I ran up behind Nico and hugged him and kissed his SHOULDERS because they looked really strong and pretty, but I had to jump really high to do it because I was a STANDING-UP kid. I was taller than I thought, but I couldn't get any taller by standing up more because I was already as tall as I could get! I wasn't very big, so it was OK that I climbed on Nico a bit. Then he threw me UP IN THE AIR. I shrieked, but he caught me and it was fun so I said, "Higher! Higher!" and he threw me WAY UP HIGH and caught me.
Another kid came to be AMAZED by Nico. She said my big brother was REALLY STRONG, but I had to say he was my cousin. He lives right next door so he's LIKE a big brother. Her name is Koo. She said it's like what pigeons say, but I made a pigeon noise and it wasn't the same. She laughed, so I tried a pigeon noise with a strong HUMAN ACCENT. It sounded a little bit more like "koo", but mostly it sounded funny and she and Nico laughed until they fell over. Then Nico threw Koo up in the air, but not as high, because she's bigger and not as good at falling. Fairy-mom and Clover-auncle showed us how to fall right even when we're standing up.
Koo is 10 too, but she didn't believe I'm 10 because I'm lots littler than her. She thinks I'm 7. I didn't want to explain how songcats grow up slower because I was being a standing-up person, so I let Nico say I'm just small for my age. She thought I was a girl because I had a dress, too, but I said she had to be a boy because she had shorts and then she understood. I told her about Hebichi's cool shorts and now she wants better shorts so she can be FASHIONABLE and STYLISH. Nico said she looked OK and her face got really RED. She thinks he's really pretty because she's like a teenager. It's OK because he IS pretty.
Nico got tired of throwing us up, so we sat and talked about silly little kids like Toka and Max and Koo's little sister Janice who's 7 and REALLY silly. Then a really big pretty orange HOUSECAT with a fluffy ruff came and sat on my lap and I had to pet her because it was Clover-auncle. I just said her name was Clover, though, because I was being a standing-up person, and I said she was my kitty. We gave her pets and she gave us purrs, and then another big orange kitty came to sit on us and it was Lucky 14, and then ANOTHER orange cat came but this one was carrying a KITTEN in warm PAJAMAS and it was Horseshoe and TINY SQUEAK! Our laps were full of cats that needed petting, and Koo thought Tiny Squeak was the CUTEST EVER and wanted to know if these cats were her parents so I said they're her big siblings. She was worried that Number-dad and Shoe-auncle weren't fixed, that means having their testicles cut off so they don't get grouchy and fighty and mean to kittens, but I said they were supposed to be DAD cats, and they were really nice to Tiny Squeak.
Tiny Squeak started to CRY and Koo said, "Oh no, what's wrong?" and then she FELL OVER because Shoe-auncle said, "She hungry" and the orange cats carried their little sister back to her MUM. Koo was REALLY SURPRISED.
I think maybe Nico threw me way up so I could climb out of the dream, but I don't remember that part very much.
I don't know why I remembered so much of this dream when maybe it was just IMAGINARY, but I did, so I wrote it down. It made me happy to think about, because Koo was nice.
When I told Hebichi that Koo thought their shorts were cool, they got really PROUD and that made me happy because Hebichi is really great and they should know it. When I told Spin that Koo was pretty and nice, he teased me about kissing her, so I got Sonny to SLURP his face. It serves you right, you TEASER!
I remembered to ask Number-dad about the dream and he said it wasn't imaginary but maybe it was on the EDGES of the Dreamlands, where it was easy to take Tiny Squeak while her mum got some exercise and didn't become a FOSSIL from lying down the same way all the time. Take good care of yourself, VV-gram!
We talked about maybe taking people to the edges of the Dreamlands for the class, but Number-dad and Fairy-mom said it's TRICKY because it's easy to fall off and be in imaginary dreams. We're going to try to take everybody to Dragon-mayor's city instead.
We had another break from the expedition and dreamed that we were SAILING. It was everybody on my expedition and Pierce and Truffle and Nameko, and Toka and their kittens, and we had a wooden ship that went really fast like a CLIPPER and there was wind and spray and DOLPHINS rode on our wave and made funny noises at us. We all helped sail except Toka and Cleo and Theo and Mlle. Floofypaws. Even Maa-uu and Mama-uu helped by pulling on ropes when we needed to adjust the sails. It was really exciting! We didn't know where we were going, but then Explorobot went MEER really loud from the crow's nest and pointed to LAND. We found a really nice island with beautiful beaches and reefs that weren't too hard to get through and a masquillion PARROTS. We landed and looked around and went to the top of the island and on the other side was a cove and there was a ship in that cove and we all recognized it because it was the DAPPER CAPYBARA! We shrieked and ran down and found Nelson-captain and Zigzag and everybody and hugged them until they SQUEAKED! We were really GLAD to know they're OK!
They were stuck at this island because almost all the DAPPER CAPYBARA's masts got broken in a HURRICANE. They were trying to make new ones but the trees were too SQUIGGLY for masts, and making masts out of pieces is no good. But our ship had all its masts, so that could be half the masts for two ships, almost. DAPPER CAPYBARA is bigger than VULTURE QUEEN JILL. We decided to put ALL the masts on DAPPER CAPYBARA and tow VULTURE QUEEN JILL back because that will be the fastest and Nelson-captain thinks it's important to get back before the weather gets even WORSE.
I'm really glad we found DAPPER CAPYBARA. We were really LUCKY, or maybe they're really lucky. It's going to be OK now!
Maybe that dream was an expedition after all.
We harvested a MASQUILLION vegetables, and there are going to be more! Everybody who helped with farming got some for their FAMILIES and the rest is going in boxes at the NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER for anybody who wants it. It makes me really happy to give people good food.
I cooked dinner twice this week because I swapped nights with Dmitri so he could go ICE SKATING with Jeanne. I think it was a DATE. Dmitri is only 12 but maybe he's turning into a teenager. That makes me really worried that he won't be my friend any more, like Zora. We used to be really good friends, but now she only likes snogging with other teenagers and not anything fun. When I thought about not playing with Dmitri any more, I started crying so I ran and hid in my closet. I felt DUMB because Dmitri is still my brother, but I can't help feeling sad. I love you a lot, Dmitri!
I think my parents noticed I was sad, because they were really nice to me. Everybody was nice to me, because they're my family and they LOVE me. Even if they don't want to play with me all the time, they'll still play with me sometimes. It'll be OK!
On my regular night, I cooked pumpkin with yogurt hamburger sauce, like they eat in AFGHANISTAN but with different spices, and we had toasty garlic bread and fried OKRA. It was a lot of work, but everybody said it was yummy and gave me GARLIC KISSES so I was PROUD. On Dmitri's night, I made beef potato curry and mixed ginger vegetables like from THAILAND and that was good too, but I think the pumpkin was better.
Purpleberry Ice Cream Adult Soccer ALMOST won the championship for the summer, but Ferocious Mama Bears beat them by 1 POINT. Everybody said it was really FRUSTRATING, but the Mama Bears are really Ferocious! Their best goalie has an ICE CREAM STORE, though, so everybody they beat gets really good ice cream!
Tiny Squeak is getting BIGGER squeaks, but she'll always be Tiny Squeak to me! Until she gets her real name. I looked up things that are lucky in case she gets a name to match her big siblings, but nothing seemed JUST RIGHT. Maybe she'll be like Dmitri and Annabelle and not find her name until she's 6.
It was an OK week.
I had another SPLIT dream last night. After I went to bed, I dreamed about hiding from scary GOVERNMENT people. I had to jump on top of trailer houses and run in a desert to hide behind bushes and there was a girl with me and maybe she was a GHOUL, that's a kind of monster that eats DEAD PEOPLE, but she was nice and we practiced being invisible and ESCAPED. It was scary when it was happening, but when I woke up I felt proud because they couldn't catch me. Maybe someday I'll be as invisible as Clover.
After I got some water and went back to sleep, I dreamed about VULTURE QUEEN JILL and DAPPER CAPYBARA. We had to sail VULTURE QUEEN JILL around the island really CAREFUL because of the reefs, and then it was a lot of work UNSTEPPING the masts and carrying them over and putting them on DAPPER CAPYBARA, but we had lots of people and some of them were big and strong like Maa-uu and Zigzag. We got DAPPER CAPYBARA fixed up enough to sail and tow VULTURE QUEEN JILL back to port. Nelson-captain and Zigzag and everybody were really happy that we came to help them. You're welcome, everybody!
We got our costume ideas and it's still MORE than a week until Halloween! Good job, Hebichi and Spin and Samuel! We're going to be like our dream-protecting animals, so Spin is going to be a raptor and I'm going to be a mastydon and Hebichi is going to be a PUMPKIN MONSTER. I'm not going to be Cattail and Hebichi isn't going to be Jackie and like that, but we'll be LIKE them so if we have a Halloween dream, we can be friends with them.
Lots of other people already have their costume ideas. Pixie and Nico and Rei and Cara and Poli and Humboldt and Dmitri are all going to be people from MEGALOMACHY, but they didn't say which ones. Max is going to be a blue star and not let anybody eat her. VV-gram is going to be a beautiful flower and put Tiny Squeak in BEE pajamas, so Number-dad and Clover are going to be bees too. People in my family like bee costumes. I think we might be WEIRD.
Dmitri wanted Jean to do a MEGALOMACHY costume too, but he was MYSTERIOUS about his costume. Now Dmitri is worried, because what if Jean is a MONSTER HUNTER?
Pierce and Truffle and Nameko don't know about birthdays, because they don't know about counting, but it was one of their humans' birthday and all of us kittens followed MONSTER-GRAM to their dream party, because it's his friend too. It was a really fuzzy dream, so I think it was on the EDGES of the Dreamlands, but it felt really warm and nice and there were lots of people and duckies and kitties and a big BUNNY with a scary laugh and some monkeys. It smelled like SUSHI and CAKE and LOVE. Happy birthday, Pirate Kitties' Human!
After the party, we went back to EXPLORING. There was still some forest to go through before we got to the clear parts of the valley, but it was a nice forest, with squirrels for Sonny and Maz to chase. Jackie tried chasing them too, but then a squirrel bit their VINE so they stopped. Squirrels are strong against plants!
At first we didn't think there were any big animals in the forest, but then we found WOLF tracks. There are lots of us and we're big and tough so we didn't worry that the tracks went the same way we were going, but then we found LITTLE ELEPHANT tracks! When elephants are wild animals, they get hunted, but we all thought it would be OK to help a BABY elephant, so we ran! At the edge of the forest, we found a big gold SCARF stuck on some thorns and there was long brown HAIR on it and I said "OH NO" because I know a little hairy ellyphant animal that wears a gold scarf. I ran as FAST AS I COULD to help Cattail!
When we got there, they were already fighting. Cattail was BLEEDING on his trunk and his leg, but he had a big stick and 1 wolf had a broken arm and 1 wolf had blood on her head and couldn't stand up right. It was really bad! I roared as LOUD AS I COULD, and Humboldt and Dmitri roared too and Maa-uu did a HUGE HONK and everybody yelled, and the wolves RAN AWAY. The bravest wolf growled at us to keep us back while the hurt wolves got away, but that was OK. I hugged Cattail a masquillion times and he squeezed me with his trunk until I squeaked and everybody hugged us when the wolves were gone. I was really GLAD he wasn't hurt too much!
Rei and Pixie cleaned up Cattail and put bandages on him so he could stop bleeding and we all gave him lots of LOVE. He doesn't talk, so it was hard to find out why he was there, but I was worried he came all the way from Penguin Palace to see me, and it made me feel like a really BAD FRIEND. I could have gone to see him! He didn't think I was a bad friend, though, he just wanted to squeeze me with his trunk, so I hugged him as big as I could and cried a little bit on his wooly fur.
It wasn't OK for wolves to try to eat my mastydon friend, but they were just being wolves, so I felt a little bad that they got hurt so much. We talked about what to do, but we couldn't follow them or they'd run away. Explorobot had a really GOOD idea. They climbed up on top of a tree and put one metal leg way up and went "meer... meer... meer..." because they were doing RADIO WAVES. I didn't know you could do that, Explorobot!
We rested and had some lunch while Explorobot radioed for help, and Explorobot had lunch too, because their PANELS were in the SUNSHINE, and we gave Cattail a lot more love and apples and KISSES and then we heard a motorcycle and it was NESSIE-AUNCLE! She's really good at making friends with wolves and other wild carnivores, so we hoped she could find the hurt wolves and help them, and we were RIGHT. She came back with 3 sleepy wolves and put them all on her motorcycle somehow and drove away. Everybody said, "Rei, your mom is the COOLEST" and we were right about that too!
It was the scariest part of the expedition so far, but we got a happy ending! When I woke up, I was all CURLED UP around Cattail, and I was squished all warm and nice between my big brothers. It was really cozy until we had to get up to go to FIGHTING class. I brought Cattail to sit with my bag and watch us, so he can get stronger against PREDATORS.
We finished harvesting all the VEGGIES today. Lots of them are yummy, but maybe the pumpkins with GLOWING FACES are best. We hid them at Massimo's house but we're going to bring them to HALLOWEEN. It'll be really cool!
The magic sleeping class is on FRIDAY. We talked to Number-dad and VV-gram and everybody about it a lot. I hope it's OK!
Having Cattail on my expedition with me makes me REALLY HAPPY. He's really tough so he doesn't mind walking with us even though he got bitten by wolves, and I give him lots of hugs and kisses and Maz and Sonny and Jackie kept an EYE out for wolves and everybody said how cute he is. Mastydon hugs are really NICE.
No more wolves came to bother us when we were walking across the open parts of the valley, but we saw tracks so we were CAREFUL. It was easy walking and sunny and not too hot and we talked about lots of things, like Nessie-auncle's mootorcycle magic and how the veterinarians are probably taking good care of the wolves. Cattail felt a little bad about hurting them, but we all said it's REALLY OK to fight when somebody wants to eat you!
In the afternoon, we saw another cloud giant flying across the sky and this time we all sang the Let's All Be Friends Song as LOUD AS WE COULD. The giant fell down from the sky and landed in a HUGE CLOUD OF FOG so we couldn't see him except for his LOOMING. "WHO DARES SUMMON THE MAGNIFICENT ZALGUOR FROM THE CLOUD-ROAD?" It was really scary! But Humboldt said, "We're kin of Heather the Sheep-Helper, who saved Gralgon and increased his flocks" and the cloud giant said, "Oh, nihao!" and then we were friends. You're really great, Heather-auncle!
The Magnificent Zalguor had a really COOL hat made out of sky-shark skin and phoenix feathers, so we had to tell him the story of how Cara defeated a sky-shark, and he said that was really good for such a tiny person so Cara got really PROUD. Then he told us about the songcats that live in the valleys on the other side of his mountain, with some regular outside cats, and how they're friends with the cloud giants so he can give us a LETTER saying we're nice. We shared some of our food with him and put the letter in Maa-uu's bag and Cara gave him a kiss on the SHOULDER and I gave him a kiss on the OTHER SHOULDER, and then he had to fly away so his Magnificant Mom wouldn't scold him for being LATE. It was really good to talk to him!
Cloud giants are like gorillas, because they're so big they have to use their hands to walk too, and their fur looks like clouds. When they're babies, their fur is white, but it gets darker and DARKER the older they get, until they're all the way grown up and their fur is BLACK, and then their backs start turning WHITE again. They keep getting bigger and BIGGER, too, until they can't walk and have to FLY all the time. Zalguor is dark grey, so I think he's just done being a teenager. He knows flying and calling fog and wind, and maybe he knows throwing LIGHTNING. That would be really good against sky-sharks.
It was a good expedition dream and it made me happy ALL DAY.
